SAP Asset Manager 2105 Now Available — What’s New?

Our team started the year with a big and exciting change, officially moving into the newly-formed group defining the new mobile experience at SAP. This brings a new collaboration model to SAP colleagues working on mobile products where now we are all closely connected and focused on innovating the next-generation of mobile solutions.

SAP Asset Manager is an important part of the SAP mobile portfolio and our development team continues their work to deliver exciting new features for the best-in-class solution.

Which features were delivered in the 2105 release?

Our focus for this release has been on high-value features frequently requested by our customers and users. The 2105 release brings supervisor capabilities, additional signature capture functionality, and welcome user experience improvements.

Supervisor role

The new supervisor mode allows a maintenance supervisor to view, assign and approve maintenance work for technicians directly from the mobile application. A supervisor can be assigned through several methods including by work center, organizational structure, user attribute, or by a custom assignment. When assigned, supervisors and their teams will see a new section for orders needing review and pending approval.

Supervisors will also be able to assign orders to members of their team on the mobile device, allowing them to manage work and ensure work quality in the field. Being mobile — and closer to the team — will bring more efficiency and better quality for maintenance execution.

Support for electronic, digital signatures

Adding to the image capture functionality released last year, this release brings SAP S/4HANA Digital Signature* to the mobile application. This must-have feature for many industries allows a technician to sign off on work order completion, operation completion, and confirmations using a digital signature.

Digital%20Signature%20Add%20Passphrase%20on%20Android%20phone%3B%20Add%20Passcode%20with%20Microsoft%20Authenticator%20on%20Apple%20tablet

After an initial setup with an authenticator application, e.g., Microsoft Authenticator, the user will be able to perform mandatory authentications using time-based one-time passcodes from the authenticator†. Information is captured in S/4HANA system as digital signature records.

This capability improves security, transparency, and regulation compliance for maintenance tasks performed by mobile technicians.

User experience improvements

We have two major user experience enhancements sure to please many users in the field.

A new slide-out menu which is accessible from anywhere in the application — just swipe from the left side of the screen — provides quick access to technical objects lists and user settings. This reduces the number of clicks required to return to the overview page when a user is several levels down into the detail views, and allows quick switching to other views when necessary.

Dark%20mode%20display%20on%20Android%20tablet%3B%20slide-out%20side%20menu%20on%20Apple%20phone

Dark mode honors the device system settings to set the SAP Asset Manager display mode, light or dark. Dark mode may be preferable to users working in certain light conditions by reducing screen glare; it has also been shown to extend battery life on some devices.

Error message improvements

This release introduces some changes to the error message displayed on the application to help the technician better understand the source of the error.

Error%20details%20on%20Android%20phone%2C%20error%20banner%20on%20Apple%20tablet

For example, when a sync error occurs, instead of a generic “Service Unavailable” message, the user will see a more specific message and be able to access more data about the cause of the error. This will help the technician troubleshoot the error and provide important information to the admin when necessary.

When is the release available?

SAP Asset Manager 2105 is available now. The application is publicly available and includes an offline demo mode for viewing and testing the extensive functionality with Quality Management, Field Operation Worker, Crew Reporting, and Customer Service add-on components included.

The application metadata is now available on the SAP Support Portal Software Center and the mobile client may be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

* Digital signature feature is only available for S/4HANA customers
† User must be online to complete digital signature authentication

      Hi Zack,

Thanks for explaining the features of SAM 2105 in detail! However I have few queries:

      1. Is there any documentation available which can explain how I can assign Supervisor role for any SAP Asset Manager User?
      2. How can I enable use of Microsoft Authenticator for Completing Orders?

      Regards,

      Sahil Dudeja

      HI Sahil,

I have activated the supervisor module . however it is still not working entirely  But please check the below points to start with the process.

      Reference :  https://help.sap.com/viewer/f15c174c3c3647088d38fb220e42c006/2105/en-US/18fbca9dac134472bd3b42f77b987b40.html?q=supervisor%20

Follow the Config guide for SAM 2105 - Point no 3.3.9 Configuring the Supervisor Module

When working with the Supervisor module we need to activate the WO Assignment type at Work center level .now it can be at the header level or the operation level.

      1. While working with Work center header level put the WO Assignment type as "1 - Header level person responsible  and 8 - Header level work center"

      WO%20Assignment%20Type%20at%20header%20level%20Workcenter

WO Assignment Type at header level Workcenter

Similarly if you want to assign at operation level the WO assignment types will be 2 - Operation/Task level personnel number and 6 - Operation/Task level work center

      2. Next is the User Role assignment - SAM2105_USER_ROLE. The data distribution assignment type can be "1 - WorkCenter , 2 - Organizational Structure Assignment, 3 - User Attribute Assignment, 4 - Custom Assignment"  based on how your team structure is maintained in backend.

Based on this if you are using 1 OR 2, the POSITION_ROLE_TYPE Data Filter will be set or If using 3 WORKCENTER_ROLE_TYPE Data Filter will be set

If you have used Say Work center then you can assigng the position role for supervisor / technicain

      Position%20Rol

      Position Role

S is the supervisor and T is the technician.

In the backend , assign the Id for S to the user who will be the supervisor .

Id with T can be assigned to the one who is technicain ( however without this also the technician was working )

Also If you are using Work center the VAP parameter should be mapped in the Su01 for your user id .

With this config the Supervisor module works. The user with Supervisor role will appear as "Supervisor" in Asset Manager and rests as "Technician"

Next we are working on the WO Approval process which is still in progress.

      Hope the above information helps

      Thanks and Regards

      Hello Neha

Can you please elaborate the below

(In the backend , assign the Id for S to the user who will be the supervisor .

Id with T can be assigned to the one who is technicain)

Where should this ID be assigned in the backend ? E.g if a supervisor has a user ID ABCD and is responsible for two workcenters MECH and ELEC for plant 1000?

Also will this functionality only work if we have assignment type as workcenter?

If we have a scenario where we want supervisiors to view all work based on work centers but when they assign work order, it should be person responsible (Personnel number) , is this possible?

      Thanks.

      Hi Neha,

Please share your finding if you tried Supervisory Functionalities by using Work center Role Type.

Confused with this statement from Config doc :

1 - Work Center Assignment: Use when the team (technicians and supervisors) is maintained in the back end through the Work Center Maintenance transaction (CR02/CR03)

Is there anyway to create a team using only work centers without assigning HR Org unit to Work center ?

Functionality working ONLY if both Technician and Supervisor are downloading work orders/operations for same work center in the case of Assignment type: 6

      Hi Neha,

      Thanks for the explanation.

Could you please explain how we can differentiate order type where review is required by Supervisor.

Like PM01 Orders donot require review & PM02 orders should be sent to supervisor for review.

Where this setting need to be done.

      Thanks & Regards

      Hi Gaurav,

In the Config guide check the WO_Assignment_Type data filter , ( page 109) , it explains what type of team assignment is done on backend . Then check accordingly CR02/CR03 OR PPOMA , there you have to map the supervisor Id in the position/ Role which is selected in SAP Config panel Position role filter. Your HR consultant can help in this .

For technician , you need not have to maintain the ID , If its not supervisor it acts as technician . ( at least what we have observed till now in our testing, earlier we had maintained for technician too but now its just supervisor in the filter)

Also Supervisor will be able to view all the work orders which are present in the work centers . and can assign the order at person level assignment .

      Hope this helps

      Thanks and Regards

Thankyou. Do we need to maintain something in the admin panel as well?

Also do we need to enable user authorizations. Still trying to make this functionality work.

(In addition to configuring the data filters found in the SAM2105_USER_ROLE OMDO, you must manually maintain the team assignments for each user in the Mobile Administration and Monitoring Portal. Information on configuring user parameters is found at the following locations)

      Hello

In order to use digital signature, do we need to configure the signature strategy in the backend(SPRO)?

We want to provide supervisors with digital signature but not the technicians.

Does digital signature get saved as a PDF or attachment in the backend work order?

      Thanks

      Hi Gaurav,

Digital Signature functionality is completely different from Electronic Signature concept in SAM, both functionality is supported from SAM. With electronic signature Technician/Supervisor can sign after Order/Operation completion and convert them into PDF attachment and link it to Order where as with Digital Signature, you need to follow standard SAP process by defining signature strategy and link to corresponding business object and these get utilized by SAM while providing digital signature and the corresponding signature will be visible as part of the DSAL/DSLOG transaction(No PDF attachment will be produced in this case).

      Thanks

Thanks a lot. If we want to consume digital signature in SAM, does it need to go via the MDK route or will it be standard similar to what we see in backend IW32?

      Syam Yalamati

      Hi Gaurav,

If you want to use digital signature via SAM then MDK is the only route available as you cannot access signature API's directly.

      Thanks

      Hello Experts

Is the checklist functionality only available after integration to ASPM or is there any standalone checklist also available in SAM?

      Thanks

Currently, only checklist solution available for SAM is ASPM checklist as of SAM2105 but we are incorporating other checklist options for future SAM releases, please stay tuned for new releases for more information or you can check our roadmap for further details.

      Hello Experts

In the demo app we found a functionality to assign multiple operations  to a user. Can you please help to understand if assignment can be done only to a personnel number? We chose the assignment type as operation level workcenter but when we assign the operation only personnel numbers are displayed to be chosen? Can't we choose a workcenter e.g MECHANIK instead?

      Thanks

Please check your assignment type configuration from Mobile applications parameters, it has to be set properly otherwise default it is pointed to header level personnel number.

      Hello

We tried to activate the supervisor mode and made the following setting, however we don't see the option  under operations (... dots) to mass assign operations to another workcenter as seen in the demo app

InSU3 we have the same work-center for the user.

Under parameters all supervisor options are marked as Y

      Hello Experts

Is it possible to control work-order assignment type via plant e.g some users should have work order assignment type at the header level and others at operational level?

      Hello Experts

Is it possible to control the digital signature based on authorizations? e.g we only want manager to do a digital signature before TECO of the work order? Technician should not be asked for digital signature.

      Hello Experts

Can you please confirm if Supervisor Mode needs HR mini master set up despite using Assignment type = 6(Workcenter at operation level). Our understanding is that if assignment type =6(Work order generic OMDO) and under supervisor user role settings we are using "1"-Workcenter assignment" and we have specified values under the Workcenter Role type in config panel, that which workcenter represents technician vs supervisor, then if we click the assign button, it should show a list of workcenters in the drop down to choose from and assign work?

      Is our understanding correct?

Hi Zack! Is SAM 2110 already available?

Help documentation is not available yet for version 2110, and this link is not showing yet SAP ERP and SAP Asset Manager App compatibility... (but even version 2105 is not available in this table...).

We are planning to upgrade from 2105 to 2110 and could not find any documentation.

      Thanks!
