SAP SAPPHIRENOW 2021: Innovation Stories and New Product Enhancements: As we are attending and witnessing the innovative ideas, solutions and successful customer case studies presented at the SAPPHIRE APAC this week, last week we saw some inspiring innovation stories at Americas and EMEA as well. I would like to summarize key products offering announcements and the technological themes that SAP see as the promising ones in the coming quarters.

CEO Christian Klein’s keynote session on “The Enterprise in the Age of Networks” rightly highlighted the challenges presented to the global companies around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the supply chain disruptions, leading to cascading effects onto other business functions as well. To respond to this challenge, SAP has created and launched the world’s largest business network with SAP Business Network, which will combine Ariba Network, SAP Logistics Business Network and SAP Asset Intelligence Network. Over 5.5 million organizations will benefit from being members of this connected community. To support this central announcement, SAP also announced new innovations designed to help companies modernize and digitalize their business processes to become intelligent enterprises.

SAP covered eight dedicated content tracks covering line of business and industry topics in the SAP SAPPHIRENOW 2021

SAP (at the Supply Chain Track) talked about resilient and sustainable supply chain and highlighted the important of synchronized planning and its execution through session under their supply chain track. John Wookey President of Intelligent Spend and Business Network at SAP said “SAP Business Network is really going to replace all the disconnectedness with a single open platform that brings together all your interaction points with trading partners. The business network will connect our existing procurement, logistics and asset networks in a unified collaborative: an intelligent network of networks, and when procurements connected not just at the surface, but to the depth of the data, your business can truly benefit from a network of intelligent enterprises”.

On the other hand, Sustainability is also the biggest agenda that SAP seems to focus on. Sustainability Portfolio includes the SAP Responsible Design and Production solution to ensure product designers can make sustainable choices from initial product concepts to production. Also, the SAP Product Footprint Management solution to track sustainability through a product lifecycle; and the SAP Sustainability Control Tower solution to provide end-to-end visibility.

New capabilities in SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (part of SAP Business Technology Platform) are announced (IT Content Track), this emphasizes the trends of Hyperautomation that we have been seeing around this year. As an example, Zuellig Pharma was faced with a massive increase in manual sales orders when the pandemic hit. So, they started using chatbots and SAP intelligent RPA to increase the sales order processing volume by a factor of 30 times of its previous level.

SAP is also expanding its low-code/no-code offering at SAP Intelligent RPA Automation services can now capture and automate UI and integrate with SAP Process Insights to identify high-impact automation opportunities. Julia White introduced a new product called SAP Upscale Commerce, a no-code solution to quickly tailor the user’s online shopping experience of customers across all channels, using AI to personalize that experience.

In general, we saw the theme of accelerating automation and Hyperautomation being highly emphasized.

Procurement track at SAPPHIRE NOW featured sessions and presentations exploring how SAP helps users align every spend decision to business strategy in today’s networked economy. Customers like Kohler, Vodafone, Gilead Sciences, Richemont International SA, Georg Fisher, Natura &Co, and XPO Logistics shared their experience and best practices.

As part of the business process intelligence (BPI) portfolio, the SAP Process Insights solution enables organizations to improve their real-world business processes. EY, Deloitte and Infosys are the initial strategic partners working with the BPI portfolio from SAP to help organizations transform and migrate their ERP system to SAP S/4HANA with a quicker time to value. The partnership includes the SAP Process Insights solution, as well as the process analytics, design, and optimization capabilities of Signavio, which SAP acquired in March 2021.

A snapshot of the thematic innovation discussed at the SAP SAPPHIRENOW 2021:
