This quarter’s update of SAP HANA Cloud is now available for all customers. Find out here the main highlights of this release.

How to update your SAP HANA Cloud instances

Once an update is available to you, you can see this by checking your instance tile in the SAP Cloud Platform cockpit.

Just click on the Update available link to start your update. You will see a confirmation dialog, explaining that, to update, you need to restart your instance.

If you click on Yes, your instance will be updated and restarted.

SAP HANA Cloud self-service migration tool

If you are currently using other versions of SAP HANA, such as the SAP HANA Service on Cloud Foundry or Neo, then it will be soon possible to take advantage of the self-service migration tool to help you identify the viability of a migration, as well as to execute the migration on your behalf.

As of October 2020, you can migrate using this tool if you are currently using SAP HANA Service on Cloud Foundry.

We have a plan to enable customers of other versions of SAP HANA Service to migrate to SAP HANA Cloud in early 2021. Sign-up for our newsletter to get regular updates about upcoming migration tools.

If you are currently using the SAP HANA Service on Cloud Foundry, you can already migrate to SAP HANA Cloud by taking advantage of the free, self-service migration tool. All SAP HANA Service users are entitled to use the migration service free of charge.

Where to find the tool

On the SAP Cloud Platform cockpit, go to your Space. Then, on the left-hand side menu, click on SAP HANA Cloud Migrations.

Native access to files in cloud object stores

With native access to files in cloud object stores, you can now import Parquet files with S3 or Azure Blob Store. You are also now able to export tables as Parquet in addition to CSV, as well as re-import this back into SAP HANA Cloud. It is also possible to export the entire schema as a parquet file catalog export/import.

To find more details on importing and exporting, see the following tutorials:

  • With Microsoft Azure

  • With Amazon S3 l

  • IMPORT FROM Statement (Data Import Export)

  • EXPORT INTO Statement (Data Import Export)

Self-Service Scale-Up and Availability of larger instances

As of now, you can provision larger instances of SAP HANA Cloud with up to 4TB. You can also scale existing instances up to 4TB, so there are no limitations there.

Data Anonymization and Replication

In this video, you will see a short demo on how to use data anonymization with data being replicated from remote sources, such as a SAP HANA on-premise database.
