Gantt chart in SAP Cloud ALM

In this blog post I would like to explain

  • How to switch to Hierarchy view(Gantt chart) in a Task List
  • How to explore data in the Gantt chart
  • Features available in the Gantt chart

Need for Hierarchy view

SAP Activate methodology delivers content in a structured hierarchy

  • Phase
    • Deliverable
      • Template Task

SAP Cloud ALM also supports creation of tasks in a structured hierarchy

  • Deliverable
    • Project Task
      • Sub-task
  •  User-Story
    • Sub-task

The list view had limitations to display the information in a Hierarchy. Also we got feedback from the customers that they wanted a visual view for start and finish dates of each task in order to plan dependencies and identify bottlenecks. Hence this view is delivered.

How to switch to Gantt chart view

In the task list you will see an additional view switch icon

This behaves like a toggle. The selected data set can be viewed in a list view or in a Gantt Chart based on your choice.

How to explore data in Gantt Chart

Once you are in the Gantt chart, you can use the controls in the top right side of your chart

As an example you expand or collapse Hierarchy elements easily with these controls. You can also use the zoom control to zoom in or out on your timeline.

You can use the filters at the top to select your data set.The views created in the list view are also available for use in the Gantt chart

Features available in Gantt chart

Many features available in list view are not available in Gantt chart view. As an example in the Gantt chart view you can not edit data or use the mass upload and download capabilities.

Gantt chart is currently designed for display use case

we may plan edit capabilities in future on case to case basis.
