Hi Everyone

Are you experiencing challenges with your specialized and home-grown profitability and performance management solutions?

What if you can overcome these traditional problems through a solution that SAP started offering for subscription since May 31, 2021 called SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud ?

Yes you read it right! The powerful calculation engine, "SAP Profitability and Performance Management", that we are enjoying on-premise is now also available in the cloud!

To start this blog let me just increase your excitement by providing an overview of the solutions SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud is offering in a high level point of view such as...

  • Integration between enterprise and external data sources for lines of business and use-case specific models

  • Quick time-to-Value with pre-built business content and out-of-the-box what-if simulations, without custom development.

  • Utilization of SAP HANA in-memory technology for ultra-fast calculations, workflows, and what-if simulations.

  • Simple subscription model: easily scale and extend with SAP HANA Cloud

Now that you are familiar with the high level overview of the solutions that SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud can offer, let me give you a sneak peek of the

  • User Interface

  • Applications

  • Modeling Functions

that you can expect to utilize upon subscribing to SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud.

User Interface

Have you explored the Visual Modeler or Studio application in SAP Profitability and Performance Management 3.0? If you have then that is a really great advantage in becoming comfortable with SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud's user interface!

SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud was designed to mainly use this interactive and user friendly "Fiori style" user interface that you are seeing in SAP Profitability and Performance Management 3.0 under Visual Modeler or Studio application.

Below you can see a snapshot of the main screens.

Note: The images were included so you can have a very fast glimpse of the screens. Click the image to have a zoomed-in view.

Applications

Somehow from my previous paragraphs and images, you can already see the main applications that are being offered by the Cloud version of SAP Profitability and Performance Management. But if you want to verify and get information about the released applications, you can visit the official released documentation: Help Portal DocumentationApplication HelpApplication for Business Users . In the said page you will realize that most applications available in the On-Premise version (SAP Profitability and Performance Management 3.0) are still in the Cloud version. And on top of it, two (2) new applications are being introduced in the Cloud version called Content Network and Users.

Since these are new applications that can only be experienced in SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud, I have decided to give you an overview of what they are for.

  • Content Network

This new application is focusing on exporting and importing of environments. This means that unlike in the On-Premise Version of SAP Profitability and Performance Management, the Cloud version is actually not using the usual SAP TMS mechanism to transport an environment from one system to another. In the Cloud version, you perform environment transport by downloading zipped JSON files containing all relavant configuration information about an environment then import the said zipped file in the next system.

Note: If in the future you will be tasked then to do this environment transport, please just remember that your user should have Administration Role.

  • Users

SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud users are registered in Cloud Foundry which provides an option for customers to make a valid email address as a Technical UserID. Since email address can be considered as private information for others, SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud then created an application that can OPTIONALLY anonymize these email addresses and be avoided to be part of application or execution logs that are being generated during runtime.

Note: Just the same as with the Content Network, this application can only be accessed by certain group of users, mainly the administrators. So if you need to have access to this application, make sure your user has Administration Role.

Modeling Functions

SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud offers various Modeling Functions which are all listed in Help Portal DocumentationApplication Help → Functions and General Entities .

After reading though the list, you will notice that the functions released in the Cloud version are not much different than of the functions offered by the known On-Premise version aside from four (4) new modeling functions. The functions that are just being introduced in the Cloud version are Calculation Workbook, Remote Function  Adapter Python and Java.

Since they are new, allow me to give you an introduction of what you can expect from these functions.

  • Workbook Calculation

Aside from Relative and Absolute Calculation, Cloud version is releasing a new Calculation type called Workbook Calculation. So if you are an excel lover and is wanting to use your complex excel formula in SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud, then this is the function for you.

This processing function performes calculation of a provided input and optionally lookup table with a help of an Excel feel User Interface and formula.

  • Remote Function Adapter Python and Javascript

The last two (2) new functions that I will discuss with you are Remote Function Adapters' Python and Javascript. These are functions that are definitely to be enjoyed by coding experts as these functions make use of Python and Javascript syntax that can help to further enrich or calculate your input data.

I hope the information I just provided helped you get a glimpse of the newly released SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud.
