As our team further enhances and expands our Digital Supply Chain and Manufacturing S/4HANA product portfolio in support of Intelligent Enterprise, we are excited to announce a modular deployment option with Digital Supply Chain, Edition for S/4HANA including Manufacturing for planning and scheduling.

SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing for planning and scheduling allows the creation of feasible production plans and schedules that optimize your scarce resources to stabilize production and help you make reliable commitments to your internal and external customers. This S/4HANA Enterprise Management core extension, available both on premise and as a cloud extended edition, ensures that planning and execution are synchronized in real time so that everyone in the company can access up-to-date planning information. With this latest release, SAP reinforces the intelligent enterprise strategy and adds customer value and strengthens our position in supply chain- / manufacturing planning space.


S/4HANA Manufacturing for planning and scheduling was introduced with the initial S/4HANA release 1610 (S/4 Advanced Planning Blog), is offering extended production planning and detailed scheduling capabilities, and was recently enhanced by new planning capabilities with the 2020 release of S/4HANA. This will be continued with a multiyear roadmap (SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing for planning and scheduling - Roadmap). Some upcoming innovation highlights include for example tank planning and an improved setup matrix management.

One of the recent innovation highlights was the delivery of the SAP Digital Supply Chain Edition for S/4HANA, which offers SAP S/4HANA but also ECC customers access to advanced Manufacturing Planning and Scheduling capabilities as a side-by-side setup. This includes the integration of master and transactional data to orchestrate the E2E process. Also synchronized production planning with SAP Integrated Business Planning is envisioned in future. The first set of innovations is already available for embedded versions with SAP IBP 2011.


Process details and configuration guides are summarized in SAP Note 2997719. This includes for instance an overview of validated example processes in SAP DSC Edition for S/4HANA for Planning and Scheduling:

  • Make-to-Stock

  • Make-to-Order

  • Process industry scenario using master recipes,
    batch management and shelf life

  • Repetitive Manufacturing

  • Use of Characteristic Dependent Planning

  • Engineer-to-Order using Variant Configuration



With this release of S/4HANA 2020 FPS1 the DSC Edition for S/4HANA is enabled to run with single ERP´s (ECC or S/4HANA) and is planned to be extended for being able to connect multiple ERP´s (ECC and/or S/4HANA as Hub Scenario) with the 2021 release of S/4HANA.
