Automatic creation of a PM Notification if Measurement Reading Failed
Automate the creation of a Subsequent Notification from the Measurement Document against a Measuring Point that has a value/reading outside of the desired operating parameters or specified values within the specific measuring point. In some instances, specific equipment operating performance or conditions are to be recorded on a regular basis. This is driven by the requirement to monitor high risk equipment in a production process or the need to satisfy regulatory requirements.

Brief Business Solution :
Part of that solution automatic notification will be created based on Measurement Document against a Measuring Point that has a value/reading outside of the desired operating parameters or specified values within the specific measuring point.
There are three ways that the measuring documents can be created and trigger the enhancement:
i) From within the work order confirmation process (IW42) when a measurement reading is captured or
ii) Directly through IK11 – Create Measurement Document or
iii) Via external interface that is set up to create measurement documents. (Usually only set up on Production critical / expensive equipment.)
In all of the 3 methods above, the Subsequent Notification and the Technical Object Reference Object Data is to be pulled through onto the new subsequent notification.
In this solution we mainly focus on Measuring Document Created Directly through IK11 – Create Measurement Document.

Step 1: Once a measuring document is created and saved, to establish if the particular Measurement Point is set up to create Subsequent Notifications the following exit is to be triggered:
Search for the values of following Characteristic that has been inherited from the Parent Measurement Point Class “XXXXX” and Class Type “037”:
Description: Follow-on Notification
The defined values for this PM_FOLLOW_ON characteristic are:
- 00 – Deactive
- 01 – Active
Measurement Point with Characteristics:
The characteristic assigned to the measuring point could be set up in several different ways, i.e. with a single value, multiple values or range/interval as highlighted below in the Value Assignment Box.
Now the idea is to capture the specific measurement reading of the active measuring point in the form of a Measuring Document and compare the reading to the specified value or range in the Measuring Point as shown in the example below highlighted in red.
Here a program has developed that works in the similar way as transaction CL30N, this allow the user to search for a specific class and characteristic value and return all objects that fall within the search criteria.
If no objects are returned then this means that we have a characteristic reading outside of the prescribed values in the measurement point and therefore the creation of a subsequent notification is to be triggered.
To be able to view the value or range of values for the specific measurement point, you will need to go to the “Classification” through the file menu in the measurement point as shown below.
- Satisfy regulatory requirement for critical equipment such as compress, boiler, heater etc.
- Automation and accuracy of data
- Monitoring and recording of specific critical equipment operating performance or conditions on a regular basis. These high risk equipment in a production process or the need to satisfy regulatory requirements.
- Manual solution of create notification is very reliant on individual discipline and therefore presents a very high risk of the subsequent notification not been created for repairs to eliminate further potential failures.
- This solution can be implemented in all industries and countries where SAP plant maintenance solution has used.
In this new generation of automation technology, system can automatically triggers the creation of a subsequent notification from the measurement document against a measuring points when particular threshold values exceeded or if particular valuation codes occur.

It's a very useful document.
Can you please elaborate that why we need to create Class and Characteristics for measurement, as we have already an option available to maintain threshold value upper and lower limit in addition data in measuring point.
Also can you please update the pictures as it is not clear.
