We started our SAP on Azure podcasts in April with a video about different DevOps deployment methods on the SAP Business Technology Platform.
Obviously when working only with BTP then SAP already provides some extremly well integrated solutions (see also SAP BTP Showcase – SAP Continuous Integration and Delivery (SAP CI&D) for SAP HANA Cloud | SAP Blogs). There is also an openSAP Course (which started on April 19th: Efficient DevOps with SAP | openSAP) which talks about these integrations.
However, we still see a lot of customers that are already using GitHub (Actions), Azure DevOps or other tools supporting CI/CD processes. Beginning of 2021 we had a session with Daniel Meixner on using Projet Piper with SAP BTP and Azure DevOps (SAP on Azure Video Podcast – Episode #23 – The One with Azure DevOps and SCP – YouTube). Now Martin joined us to discuss different deployment strategies and even showed us how to use Feature flags.
Backup and Restore can be a pretty boring topic (listen also to Ravi Kashyap and Nathan Weaver on https://open.spotify.com/episode/6GGzCdJE4B5SYfTkqejZCU?si=LR2hrUCcQwmbn_DLHILStQ) — at least until you need to do a restore. With Azure Backup we already have a powerful service on Azure that enables you to backup different types of resources in a simple and quick way. With Azure Backup for SAP HANA we provide an SAP-certified way to backup and restore your SAP HANA database. In this episode Kartik Pullabhotla talks in detail about what you can do with Azure Backup for SAP HANA and shows the required steps to prepare your SAP system, run a backup and perform a restore.
After the dedicated call on Azure Backup for SAP HANA with Kartik, we took a step back and Robert talked in more detail about backups in general. What are crash consistent backup, what’s application consistent, …
Robert did also a quick demo and looked at the configuration and settings in Azure Backup and more importantly the restore — after all there is no successful backup, only a successful restore.
On April 22nd we had a very detailed discussion around security for your SAP system on Azure. Evren Buyruk had hosted a very popular Zero Trust with SAP on Azure session in a recent SAPInsider event. Luckily he offered to also talk about this on the SAP on Azure Podcast. In very detailed steps Evren talked about Microsoft’s investment in Security, the different security components like Identity, Key vaults, Firewall, Azure Sentinel and how these components can be used to setup and secure your SAP on Azure landscape.
