In this series of blog posts, I'd like to introduce the capabilities and related configurations of SAP Landscape Management Cloud. Each blog post will focus on a specific topic and will include a video to explain the scenario and necessary configuration steps.

You can find a list of all topics covered in our overview post.

In the video embedded in this blog, I will show which configurations are needed in SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition, how to set up the cloud connector as well as the initial onboarding of SAP Landscape Management Cloud.

Using SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition as your landscape agent

You can use SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition as your landscape agent as an alternative to the execution engine for SAP Landscape Management Cloud. You can find a video about the required configuration steps for SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine in this blog post.

What is a landscape agent?

When using SAP Landscape Management Cloud, you can either use the enterprise edition of SAP Landscape Management or the execution engine for SAP Landscape Management Cloud as the landscape agent. The purpose of it is to receive API calls from SAP Landscape Management Cloud to trigger the start or stop of SAP systems, SAP instances, or virtual machines (VMs) according to set patterns.

Besides the known capabilities of SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition (which you can find details of here ), in the context of SAP Landscape Management Cloud it can:

  • Replicate configured SAP systems and pools to SAP Landscape Management Cloud

  • Execute operations on landscape entities

  • Collect monitoring information

Let’s use an example to explain its usage:

Assuming we have created a pattern to start an SAP system and its VMs at 6.00 a.m. and stop them at 10.00 p.m. The components shown in Figure 1 would work together as follows:

6:00 a.m.:

  • SAP Landscape Management Cloud sends an API call to SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition to trigger the start of the VMs of the SAP system followed by the database and SAP instances.

10:00 pm:

  • SAP Landscape Management Cloud sends an API call to SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition to trigger the graceful stop of the SAP system, stop the database, and then stop the respective VMs.
