A Hitchhiker’s Guide to SAP Landscape Management Cloud, Part 2: What Are the Required Configurations When Using SAP Landscape Management Cloud, Execution Engine?
In this series of blog posts, I’d like to introduce the capabilities and related configurations of SAP Landscape Management Cloud. Each blog post will focus on a specific topic and will include a video to explain the scenario and required configuration steps.
You can find a list of all topics covered in the overview post.
In the video embedded in this blog post, I will show how to set up the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine, configure a cloud connector, and perform the initial onboarding of SAP Landscape Management Cloud.
What is SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine?
The execution engine for SAP Landscape Management Cloud acts as a so-called landscape agent for managing SAP landscapes with SAP Landscape Management Cloud.
What is a landscape agent?
When using SAP Landscape Management Cloud, you can either use SAP Landscape Management, enterprise edition or the execution engine as the landscape agent. The purpose of the landscape agent is to receive API calls from the tenant of SAP Landscape Management Cloud to trigger the start or stop of SAP systems, SAP instances, or virtual machines (VMs) according to a set pattern.
The SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine is used to:
- Discover SAP landscapes
- Execute operations on landscape entities
- Collect monitoring information
Let’s use an example to explain its usage:
Assuming we have created a pattern to start an SAP system and its VMs at 6.00 a.m. and stop them at 10.00 p.m., the components shown in Figure 1 work together as follows:
6.00 a.m.:
- SAP Landscape Management Cloud sends the required API calls to the infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider to start the VMs.
- SAP Landscape Management Cloud sends an API call to the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine to trigger the start of the database and SAP system once the VMs are running.
10.00 p.m.:
- SAP Landscape Management Cloud sends an API call to the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine to trigger the graceful stop of the SAP system and its database.
- SAP Landscape Management Cloud sends the required API calls to stop the VMs of the IaaS provider as soon as the SAP instances and database are stopped.

Required steps for setting up SAP Landscape Management Cloud using the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine
The following video explains the following key steps:
- Starting and configuring the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine
- Configuring the cloud connector
- Running the onboarding process for SAP Landscape Management Cloud
Summary
The setup of SAP Landscape Management Cloud requires:
- Setup of the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine in your landscape for system discovery, executing operations and collecting monitoring information.
- Configuring the cloud connector to establish a secure connectivity between the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine and SAP Landscape Management Cloud.
- Perform initial onboarding of SAP Landscape Management Cloud.
As an alternative to the SAP Landscape Management Cloud, execution engine also SAP Landscape Management, Enterprise Edition can be used, which is described in another post of this series.
