Stability in business has always been important, but the global crisis we’ve faced in 2020 has put a new lens on the topic. If your business has mission-critical apps and data, the economic strains faced this year have likely put more emphasis on business continuity and the relevance of these apps and data.

When I think of mission-critical during COVID-19 my thoughts immediately turn to healthcare, supply chains, and manufacturing (of necessities and protective gear). Add to this that most organizations are operating with remote workforces, the security and connectivity of business data has become mission-critical for businesses to simply survive the times. Keeping systems and applications running efficiently and securely in the cloud is now fundamental to getting through this crisis. In short, there’s no time for downtime.

This is where SAP and the power of our partner ecosystem come into play…

As you might know, 77% of the world’s transaction revenue touches an SAP system – needless to say there’s a lot of companies out there who’ve built their businesses on core applications from SAP. Many of these require zero down time – think trains and metro systems, airlines, banks, pharma research, and of course healthcare – and those are just off the top of my head! When there are issues, enterprise downtime can cost a business anywhere from $300,000 to $5,000,000 per hour.1

Recently, Virtustream, a Dell Technologies business and SAP global technology partner, commissioned Forrester Consulting to dig deeper into multicloud environments.2  Forrester Consulting asked businesses around the world about their multicloud strategies and investment plans. In their findings, more than half of the respondents said that applications dealing with customer, financial and sensitive data were mission-critical applications; and 94% of those organizations reported that they’ve experienced deployment or ongoing management issues related to their multicloud environments. If you would like to learn more, listen in on Bill Martorelli, Principal Forrester Analyst serving Infrastructure & Operations Professionals, who recently sat down with Virtustream to discuss the implications of Forrester’s findings.
