UI Theme Designer will no longer support Internet Explorer 11

In this blog I want to update you on the supported browsers for UI theme designer. This concerns only the UI theme designer tool itself. For the support of the created themes please see the browser support section for the used SAP UI technology.

Last year UI theme designer announced in What’s New the end of support of Microsoft legacy browsers Internet Explorer 11 and Edge Legacy. Now it is time to say goodbye to Internet Explorer 11 for UI theme designer with the next release UI theme designer 1.61.

Why

The UI theme designer is a design time tool implemented with SAPUI5. SAPUI5 has announced end of support of browsers Internet Explorer 11 and Edge Legacy in future releases, see Planned End of Support of Internet Explorer 11 for SAPUI5 and Fiori Launchpad for details.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge Legacy (EdgeHTML) are legacy products, which do not fulfill the requirements of a modern browser regarding features, security, performance, etc. Microsoft has limited the support for both products and recommends transitioning to the new Microsoft Edge browser. To ensure a secure environment for running business-critical solutions, SAP recommends using the latest version of a modern and secure browser.

What about themes created with UI theme designer

This blog does not concern themes created with UI theme designer. The browser support of the created themes depends on the SAP UI technology which is used for an application. Checkout the following blogs for more information:

What to do

To create themes with UI theme designer on Windows use the latest version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. On macOS use the latest version of Apple Safari or Google Chrome.
