New display options for classification in equipment and functional locations
You may sometimes want to get an overview of classification information for a number of functional locations or equipment. This overview could contain many more characteristics (perhaps over a hundred), than the list can display. You could enhance the list for yourself, but it would be nicer if SAP provided this functionality out of the box.
This is exactly what we have done, by extending the number of characteristics that can be displayed for functional locations and equipment in the singe-level list displays to 200.
Another crucial aspect of this overview is to be able to determine which classes are assigned to which functional locations or equipment, even if the characteristic values are still initial. You can also do this with new columns, that show which class is assigned to which functional location or equipment.
Display of Assigned Class with Initial Characteristic Values
To round off this functionality, we are also delivering an improvement to the exporting function of result lists to a spreadsheet. To find out more, refer to this blog post.
On top of this, we have implemented some quality-of-life improvements for the detail display of the functional locations and equipment. You can now customize a new view to display 20 characteristics for the functional location and equipment details. You can also navigate directly from the functional location and equipment details to the classification changes in the menu.
The new functionality is available with SAP Note 3021204 or with the upcoming support packages of Enhancement Package 8 for SAP ERP 6.0 and SAP S/4HANA 1909, 2020, and 2021. You can enable the new functionality by implementing either the SAP Note or by installing the corresponding support packages, and switching on the business function Enterprise Asset Management Part 16 for the classical user interface.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the new functionality, so please comment if you have any questions!

Hello,
I am still not able to execute this function.
Does it mean that I don't have this functionality yet?
Still getting the error which says that more than 20 characteristics can't be displayed.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Ilyas
Hello Ilyas,
Please see note 3021204 for the implementation instructions. In short, you need to implement another note, note 3025635, then activate the Enterprise Asset Management Part 16 business function. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Gábor
Hi Gabor,
We implemented this functionality in a Sandbox system. However, I have two questions:
1.) Note 3025635 Instructions: You were referring to Business Function LOG_EAM_CI_16 (Enterprise Assset Management Part 16), however in Note 3025635 the folowing BF is mentioned: LOG_EAM_SIMPLICITY_16 (Simplified Management of EAM Functions 16) - so which one is relevant? This makes a difference because of dependencies between the Business Function
2.) Saving of Layout including selected classes & characteristics:
After implementation of this functionality in a Sandbox system we are now able to see the new functionalities. However, it is not possible to save any layouts in the ALV grid that contains any of the classes or characteristics. Hence, user needs to run the report, e.g. IH06, enter button Show/Hide Classification, select the classes and there is no option to save the layout for later re-usage. Did I miss anything here or is this really not possible?
Thanks a lot and best regards
Tim
Hi Tim,
Let me try to answer your questions below:
1.) The correction instruction is incorrect. Instead of note 2933158 (BF LOG_EAM_SIMPLICITY_16) you will need 3015276 (BF LOG_EAM_CI_16). We will fix this correction instruction.
2.) The layout is no longer supported in this variant. The possibility of providing a layout editor was one of the limiting factors in the number characteristics that can be displayed. Without the layout editor the number characteristics that can be displayed are not longer limited.
I hope this answers your questions. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Gábor
Hello
I just did also the test of this new functionality and have the same result that it is not possible to create Lay-out variants for the characteristics. This is a missing but very important functionality.
It will be better to include this in the description of the note and not in a separate note.
What I also saw was that if you select multiple classes, only one class is shown in the report and all the others are blank.
Best regards
Kees
