Over the last few years SAP Business One Global Support published a series of LinkedIn articles using the common title Support Spotlight. Many of these are still very much relevant and offer value to our customers and partners. From the support organization we want to make these articles available in Blog form to the users here on the community. This blog is based on a LinkedIn Article originally published December 6, 2017.

A new year has just started and among other things you wish for, you can ask yourself what numbers you want out of your SAP Business One system for this new fiscal year.

In this article, we want to draw your attention to an incredibly simple solution that is offered within the standard package that will take less than 5 minutes to understand, yet offers a multitude of new angles on the data available to you.

With the Reference Field Links, you will exponentially increase the possibilities for your standard reports by tagging Journal Entries with predefined values. User Defined Fields are also available for selection.

Once set up these values are continuously maintained in the Reference Fields of the Journal Entries created by each document type.

Later, when running standard Financial or Accounting Reports such as Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss and General Ledger, by opening the Expanded options you can use the tags to view exactly the sections of data that you want. Combine the functionality with the Projects and Distribution Rules to really pin point areas of your business to put the magnifying glass on.

We hope the five minutes invested will give you a good return in the new fiscal year.
