SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain – 2102
In the first quarter of 2021 we provide once more a new version of the SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain with a lot of enhancements and improvements.
Here the highlights of the 2102 release:
Enhancements and changes for Sample Model SAPIBP1
Each release we apply the latest and greatest to the SAPIBP1 sample planning area. Among other things here some of the changes:
- included an example for the IBP_COUNT simplified key figure calculation (key figure RESLOCPRODCOUNT);
- created new key figures: Actuals Rev. YTD and AOP Rev. YTD introduced to allow year-to-date analysis. They use the cumulative aggregation function (IBP_CAGGR)
- removed several technical key figures for demand sensing;
- enhanced the calendar week and technical week descriptions in the time profile sample data with information about the month. The last point seems to be a small one, but it helps you navigate through the weeks.

This is only a short glimpse of all the changes done in SAPIBP1. If you want to learn more about all enhancements and the reasons behind it, please check out the following document or the “What’s new” section in SAP Help for IBP.
New scope item for Inventory optimization: IBP for inventory – scenario planning scope item
This new scope item describes how you can change demand, production, transportation, or policy input variables on your inventory plan for strategic planning purposes. You evaluate the impacts of your changes and with that you can determine the sensitivity of these input variables with regard to baseline planning outputs to better understand the underlying relationships and dependencies.
The analysis type (demand, production, transportation, policy) defines the default input key figures and output key figures, but you can also change or add display attributes and additional output key figures.
Inventory Analysis app – create new scenario
The input screen allows you to change e.g. the target service level for a specific customer group.

When you are finished, and run the scenario, the system calculated the output key figures. You can compare them with the base version on different levels of detail and filtering, and learn the impact of your changes.

Automated cost generation in IBP – response and supply – deployment optimizer scope item
The IBP – response and supply – deployment optimizer scope item now comes with a new planning run profile including automated cost generation. With the automated cost generation you let the system generate the costs based on the demand prioritization rule, procurement priorities of transportation lanes.
Manage Master Data app
It’s now also possible to evaluate how the available transportation resource capacities are consumed by the deployment of goods through the supply chain.
DDMRP Buffer Status Monitoring app in IBP for demand-driven replenishment – planning scope item
The IBP for demand-driven replenishment – planning scope item now uses the DDMRP Buffer Status Monitoring app to get a fast overview with color-coded priority statuses. The app shows current day, on-hand stock, order recommendations, net flow positions and projected on-hand stock for future dates relevant to decoupling points in a supply chain.

Example for a waterfall chart in IBP for sales and operations – demand review scope item
The IBP for sales and operations – demand review scope item includes an example for a waterfall chart called Consensus Demand Plan Profit. You can view the cumulative increase, decrease and total result for a set of key figures.
Remember: you can take advantage of all the predefined charts and alerts with one click when you take a copy of sample planning area SAPIBP1.

Manage Master Data app in IBP – time-series-based inbound integration with SAP S/4HANA scope item
We simplified the integration scope item for time-series-based planning by using the Fiori Manage Master Data app instead of Microsoft Excel master data workbooks to check the results of the integration in SAP IBP. Of course you can still use the excel master data workbooks, but perhaps you find the FIORI app more convenient.

Intelligent Visibility app in IBP – Business Network Collaboration – supplier commit with SAP Ariba scope item
The IBP – Business Network Collaboration – supplier commit with SAP Ariba scope item now uses the Intelligent Visibility app with a specific intelligent visibility profile to check the corresponding information by means of charts.
You start with the definition of the intelligent visibility profile. Here you can define e.g. the number formatting of key figures, a center point for the map, and additional charts you want to see in the intelligent visibility app.
Intelligent Visibility Profile app
When you open the app Intelligent Visibility, you select the planning area, the version and also the profile you have defined in the first step. On the map you see the locations with alerts. When clicking on it, you get a split screen with the alerts and with the charts you have selected.
