New Pricing for SAP Intelligent RPA

SAP introduces a new metric and pricing for SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation effective January 25, 2021. SAP will change the metric from Transactions to Concurrent Sessions:

Concurrent Sessions (CS) are the aggregated number of sessions accessing the cloud service at any one time.

A session refers to the time between logon and logoff or time out where a unique user, application, bot, or platform accesses the cloud service either directly, or indirectly via a custom application.

Concurrent Sessions count the maximum number of bots (aka as scripts, automations etc.) which are executed simultaneously. Attended and unattended concurrent sessions are counted separately.

Service Plan for Attended Bots

Service Plan for Unattended Bots

Access to Cloud Studio and Control Room is included. The developer license includes now also the execution of the bot as an execution of a bot in test mode will not count as a concurrent session.

SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation is available as subscription and via the Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA).

  • Hello Peter,

Just to confirm: These Service Plans are separated licenses? (E.g. If a customer wants to have one attended and one unattended robots he has to buy two licenses one for attended and one for unattended?)

    Best regards

    • Hi Marek,

that is right. The license is separated and a customer with attended and unattended use cases has to buy both licenses.

  • Dear Peter,

What is the best way to estimate the license cost with the new pricing model? What all parameters, criteria, services to consider while proposing iRPA license cost? The old model was comparatively easy.

    • Hi Lalit,

I think you need more or less the same information as for the transaction based licensing. Two examples how you can calculate.

Attended bots: Number of users, number of executions per day/hour per user, duration of the bot execution.

Example: 55 users = 6 blocks of attended license as first estimate. 12 minutes of bot runtime per user and hour = 660 minutes per hour -> minimum 11 concurrent sessions needed -> 2 blocks. Depending on availability needs 2 to 6 blocks needed.

Unattended bots: Total of execution runtime over all bots per day. Need for parallel execution. Number of process to automate e.g. order capture, order fulfilment, goods receipt etc.

Example: 5 processes to automate -> 5 unattended licenses. All bots running 40 hours -> 2 unattended licenses. Depending on parallelization needs 2 - 5 licenses needed.

  • Hi Peter,

I want to procure SAP IRPA Licence, but got confused about certain things like below:

    1. Difference between CPEA, PAY-GO, and SUBSCRIPTION.

    2. Difference between Attended, Unattended, and SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation Service Plan.

     3. What is the meaning of Range and why cost increases as the range decrease?

Could you please explain in detail, which will be more helpful to me.

    Thanks in Advance

    • Hi Sai,

CPEA: With this contract type you do not purchase directly a specific service on the Business Technology Platform (BTP). You get Cloud Credits which then can be used to consume any service on the BTP. You have to pay upfront and then you consume this Cloud Credits in the next 12 months.

Pay Go: Here you close a contract without upfront commitment. You can again use every service on BTP and get an invoice based on your consumption of the service. Based on the fact that there is no upfront commitment the prices are 30% higher as with the CPEA or a subscription.

Subscription: With the subscription you purchase one or more dedicated services for a defined time (12/24/36 months).

Range: We have for all contract types a tier pricing in place. This mean as more you purchase as cheaper the price. Example: You purchase 10 unattended concurrent sessions then you have to pay 10x300EUR/per month = 3.000 EUR per month.

The transaction metric is for new customers only available via CPEA and Pay Go.
