As recently announced, SAP has stopped using the SAP Cloud Platform portfolio brand to avoid confusion with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) as (new) brand. Note that in some cases SAP Cloud Platform is replaced with SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP Help Portal) while elsewhere it is replaced with SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite (SAP Community). Some may find this confusing. Platforms and suites are just boxes with labels. What’s inside the box – the actual products ans services – changes over time, just as the size and shape. To understand the concepts, think outside the box. Still confused? Visit |
About the Exam
Associate Level
Information about the exam is published on the SAP Training website. This is also where you can book the exam (or get a Certification Hub subscription)
The C_ stands for consultant/associate level type exam. The other flavours are P_ for professional and E_ for expert (associate add-on) but these are not available for SAP Cloud Platform.
Related Exams
As the services of the SAP Cloud Platform were divided over an integration suite and an extension suite, the same was done for the certification. For the integration exam, see
Earlier versions of the exam covered both extension and integration topics but also many other topic areas now removed.
Validity
You can check the validity of the certifications at training.sap.com/certification/validity.
For the certification FAQs, see
- SAP Global Certification FAQ – Overview
- SAP Global Certification FAQ – Exam Process
- SAP Global Certification FAQ – Post-Exam Process
To take the exam visit SAP Training and select Access the Certification Hub.
Once you passed the exam, you will receive a digital badge from Acclaim.
See the FAQ for more information about SAP Global Certification Digital badges.
Topic Areas
Information about the topic areas covered is listed on the exam information page.
Note the small print: SAP reserves the right to update the exam content (topics, items, weighting) at any time. Make sure to check the exam page when starting your preparation. |
All topic areas map to the CLD200 – SAP Extension Suite course from SAP Training. The first three topics also reference course CP100 – SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite, Introduction.
As both reference CP100, there is some (minor) overlap between the topic areas of the C_CPI_13 exam.
You can download the course index from the training page(s). This provides a more detailed list of the topics covered on the exam.
How to Prepare
SAP Training
When you have the time and budget, take the SAP Training courses. Nothing beats a 3+3 day focus with hands-on exercises and training environment.
- CP100 – SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite, Introduction – 3 days
- CLD200 – SAP Extension Suite – 3 days
SAP Learning Hub
Alternatively, consider a subscription for the SAP Learning Hub and/or Certification Hub.
For those new to the Learning Hub, you can try before you buy.
Learning Journey
The learning journey shows a visualisation of the courses to take, combining free openSAP courses with the official training curriculum. You can logon and mark your progress.
The tiles for each of the courses show the available formats: classroom and e-books.
Note that although recommended, the CP100 and CLD200 courses are not required. |
Besides a Learning Journey for the SAP Extension Suite Certification path, additional Learning Journeys have been mapped out for extending some of the line-of-business (LoB) solutions.
openSAP (Free)
Included with the learning journey and great place to start is the openSAP course on the topic by Martin Grasshoff and Karsten Strothmann.
- Introduction to SAP Cloud Platform Extension Suite (September 2020)
The course consists of 7 videos of about 15-20 minutes each.
The second recommended openSAP Course is the “latest” update of the Essentials training from April 2019 by Harini Gunabalan (et al.).
The course consists of four sections (weeks) with each about an hour of content.
The Times are a-Changin’Recorded about two years ago, the Q2 2019 Essentials course is starting to age. Developing applications is demonstrated with the SAP HANA service and SAP Web IDE instead of SAP HANA Cloud and SAP Business Application Studio, for example, as would be recommended today. We also learn about SAP Leonardo Machine Learning Foundation, which since has changed names, the Leonardo brand being no longer in use. The Neo environment is covered although the focus is on Cloud Foundry and multi-cloud, and the scope of the platform still included building new applications instead of focusing on extensions and integrations, as is the case today. With the recent evolution into a broader SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and sunset of the SAP Cloud Platform brand, an update to the Essentials course may not be in the cards. That being said, the course still provides an good introduction into the domain model of the platform, Cloud Foundry, the Cloud Application Programming (CAP) model, and other topics covered on the C_CPE_12 exam. |
Another interesting course, although most material is beyond the scope of the exam, is the CAP course from April 2020.
The openSAP courses dedicated to the extension topics may have aged a bit too much (remember the HANA Cloud Platform?)
- Extending SAP S/4HANA with SAP HANA Cloud Platform | January, 2017
- Extending SAP SuccessFactors with SAP Cloud Platform | October, 2017
- Extending SAP Cloud for Customer with SAP Cloud Platform | October, 2018
For upcoming, running, and past courses about the SAP Cloud Platform see the openSAP course catalog.
- SAP Cloud Platform (filter)
SAP Help Portal (Free)
The above-mentioned courses from SAP Training are based on the documentation, of course, albeit in condensed format. If you prefer to read, you can print the entire guide as PDF but the result is a document of 1,300+ pages, most of which will be beyond the scope of the exam.
The most relevant sections are
- Basic Platform Concepts
- Getting Started in the Cloud Foundry Environment
- Administration and Operations in the Cloud Foundry Environment
- Security
- Extensions
Unlike the SAP HANA platform, for example, where the documentation portal points to separate guides (Administration, Security, etc.), the links on the SAP Help Portal all point to the same document but you may find the portal easier to navigate.
Not included (yet) on the portal, but relevant reading is the extension entry of the Best Practices for SAP BTP guide.
For In-App Extensibility, visit
Microsites and Additional References
Besides the documentation, there are multiple “microsites” (often using the .sap domain), where you can find additional information about the topics covered on the exam.
Although recommended and relevant resources, when time is limited, do not spend too much time reading the material on these microsites as most is beyond the scope of the exam. |
SAP Discovery Center
The SAP (Cloud Platform) Extension Suite comprises 80+ services and you can browse the catalog by suite and capabilites
- discovery-center.cloud.sap | SAP Business Technology Service Catalog
The Extension Suite is subdivided into three areas
- Development Efficiency (62)
- Digital Experience (16)
- Digital Process Automation (5)
The services with SAP as provider reference the Neo environment and are not covered on the exam.
The other environments, ABAP, Cloud Foundry and Kyma, are listed here as services. Browse each of the services for additional information and tutorials.
Beyond a description and information about the service plans, for each service we also find missions (tutorials) and an abundance of resource references to documentation and other learning opportunities.
SAP Cloud Application Programming Model
For documentation, getting started tutorials, cookbooks, code samples, and more, visit
There is also a learning journey
As documented,
The SAP Cloud Application Programming Model is a framework of languages, libraries, and tools for building enterprise-grade services and applications. It guides developers along a ‘golden path’ of proven best practices and a great wealth of out-of-the-box solutions to recurring tasks.
SAP Cloud SDK
A whole chapter of the CLD200 training is dedicated to the SAP Cloud SDK. Make sure to spend some time on the microsite dedicated to this topic and try out some of the exercises.
SAP Graph
Make sure to explore SAP Graph and browse the documentation.
SAP Extensibility Explorer
For the exam, you are expected to be familiar with In-App and Side-by-Side extensions. To get a good grip on this material visit the SAP Extensibility Explorer.

- SAP Extensibility Explorer Help
SAP API Business Hub
Familiarise yourself with APIs and the API Business Hub as the topic is sure to come up on the exam. Browse the documentation and check out what’s on offer. The new versions is not included on the exam (time of writing).

SAP API Management
About the SAP API Management topic, see
- SAP Cloud Platform API Management | SAP Help Portal

SAP Community
You can find references to the above-mentioned resources plus the latest blog posts, tutorials, newsletters, and more, on the topic area.
SAP Development Center
Of course, the tutorials from the SAP Development Center also provide a great learning opportunity. The tutorials are for free and typically target the SAP Cloud Platform trial environment.
Exam Guides
SAP PRESS
The SAP Certification Success Guides series from SAP PRESS includes a guide on the SAP Cloud Platform Development Associate Exam.
Note that like the openSAP Essentials course, this book is starting to age. The latest edition of this exam guide is from 2019, written at the time for the C_CP_11 (2018-2020) exam, which differs considerably from the C_CPE_12. The book devotes whole chapters on SAP HANA XS classic application development and SAP Leonardo, topics no longer included on the exam, while important concepts like In-app and side-by-side extensions are not extensively covered. |
