What’s New
Topics and Weight
Both the exam and the associated trainings for the C_HANADEV_17 certification for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 are very similar to its predecessor C_HANADEV_16 for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04. What’s new and what’s changed?
There have been no changes to the topic areas and relative weights.
Minor changes were made to the HA450 course but this mostly concerns reshuffling of the content; six lessons from the appendix made their way back into the course again as Unit 2.
The same applies to the other source of input: HA300; some figures we updated, a bit of text added, some reshuffling, but overall the course is very similar.
SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05
We already pointed out in a previous post that the focus for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 was to provide a rock-solid release for a five year maintenance window and not to introduce many new features (mainly targeted for SAP HANA Cloud) and we saw this reflected in the list of entries for the What’s New guide: 40 pages instead of 80 when compared to the previous two releases (even down to 21 pages when we leave out the SAP HANA cockpit administration tool). As consequence, the HA300 and HA450 training courses did not require a lot of changes.
For more information about the SPS 05 release, see
SAP HANA Cloud and SAP Business Application Studio
The SAP Certified Development Associate – SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05 only concerns SAP HANA platform on-premises and does not cover SAP HANA Cloud.
This also applies to the tool SAP introduced in 2020 for cloud-based application development: SAP Business Application Studio. The App Studio (or BAS) provides an extension for native SAP HANA database development.
For the exam, all questions reference the SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA.
SAP HANA Studio and SAP HANA XS Classic
SAP HANA studio as modeling tool was already removed from the exam and course material some editions ago. Not does the exam cover the SAP HANA XS Classic (XSC) model, the SAP HANA repository, questions about _SYS_REPO, or any related material (e.g. SAP HANA Live).
When any of these terms are mentioned as answers, it is probably the wrong one!
