SAP HANA Cloud Workshops: Extending to the cloud

Starting December 15, we’ll be offering a three-day hands-on workshop bootcamp of three live sessions that go in-depth into extending SAP HANA on-premise to SAP HANA Cloud. The workshops will be led by SAP HANA Product Managers, Tae Suk Son and me. We will be there live to answer questions in every session.

This is an opportunity to get to know SAP HANA Cloud’s hybrid connectivity features. Our workshop sessions will provide you with best practices and insights into how to extend your SAP HANA on-premise to the cloud. You’ll learn how to improve your query performance in a hybrid scenario as well as how to virtualize data with multiple systems.

Please keep in mind that you will also be able to watch the sessions on-demand after the live sessions, in case you cannot attend live.

Session 1: Access Data Across Your On-Premise and Cloud Data Sources

December 15 | 10:00 am EST

Get to know SAP HANA Cloud’s hybrid connectivity features and capabilities:

You will learn how to set up your SAP HANA Cloud trial instance and we will guide you through the steps on how to enable a hybrid scenario with both SAP HANA smart data access (SDA) and SAP HANA smart data integration (SDI), which includes configuring the Data Provisioning Agent. You can follow along the steps shown in the workshop by using a detailed accompanying workbook and ask questions to the presenters.

Session 2: Running queries with Replication and Import/Export

Learn how you can query data from hybrid sources by setting up data replication and data import/export in SAP HANA Cloud:

We will show you how to import data to SAP HANA Cloud from Amazon S3 and how to set up data federation from Google BigQuery and another SAP HANA Cloud data lake.

For these exercises, Amazon S3, Google BigQuery and SAP HANA Cloud, data lake are already prepared for you so you can simply follow the steps with your SAP HANA Cloud trial instance as described in the workshop and the accompanying workbook. We will use TPC-H data and queries to explain the details.

Session 3: A Single Gateway to All Your Data

Learn the best practices in creating hybrid tables and outputs in SQL view, building efficient queries, and federation data with multiple systems:

We will show you how to toggle between virtual tables and replicas and will revisit the federation over federation concept by using both SAP HANA Cloud and SAP HANA on-premise (SAP HANA, express edition) with existing static result cache. Also, working with the SQL Analyzer will be addressed.
