Data proliferation is happening at lightning speed. It’s never been more important to make confident decisions at speed and scale. Business users need to have up to date information, right at their fingertips, with the ability to analyze and visualize massive amounts of data in one place.

Turning data into insights and insights into action requires the right combination of tools. In 2020, we have integrated SAP Analytics Cloud stories into SAP S/4HANA on premise for a superior business user experience.

Let’s walk through what this integration looks like, what benefits you can expect from SAP Analytics Cloud, and how the integration works. Want to learn even more? Check out this blog post on the integration, which provides much more detail.

One single place to make confident decisions

Real-time analytics that tap into the operational data has become indispensable for making data-driven decisions. This integration provides SAP S/4HANA seamless UI for business users. Without needing to log into other systems, business users can find relevant reports and dashboards next to their operational tasks on the same launchpad.

This integration also provides them with smart capabilities to uncover insights that will help fuel their decisions with confidence.

Businesses today have access to endless streams of data. But a pile of numbers doesn’t necessarily tell you anything valuable about your business. Insight does. As an end-to-end cloud analytics solution, SAP Analytics Cloud combines all your analytics needs – business intelligence, planning, and predictive technology, to turn all that data into insight for more strategic and well-informed business decisions. And having all these capabilities in one single solution saves you time and effort while helping you make even more confident decisions.

With this tight integration, SAP Analytics Cloud stories that can used an SAP S/4HANA live connection are accessible from within SAP Fiori launchpad.

Here’s what that means:

Capabilities of this integration

The integration scenario combines an Enterprise or “stand-alone” SAP Analytics Cloud with SAP S/4HANA on premise. That means that every story that is based on a live data connection to SAP S/4HANA on premise can be integrated and launched from within the SAP Fiori launchpad. This connection is immensely value for two reasons.

First, live connection is accessible from within SAP Fiori launchpad. As mentioned earlier, this replication-free access enables business users to find relevant dashboards next to operational tasks on same launchpad. Business users won’t have to log onto other systems. They can easily navigate and extract insights on one solution, without interrupting their workflow.

Second, customers may use pre-configured business content offered by SAP and Partnersto build dashboards and stories that leverage data from other LOB solutions, such as market driven forecasts, lead-to-cash process analytics, and revenue optimization.

Business users can also leverage data from third party sources. They can also choose to build their own custom stories.

Here is a full breakdown of what this integration will provide S/4HANA business users with:

  • Integration in the Fiori User Interface

  • Seamless navigation between analytical & transactional apps

  • Live data connection for fast performance & replication free access

  • Planning across Finance and Supply Chain

  • Use case specific Business Content

  • Smart capabilities to uncover insights

How the integration works

The integration is based on two important product capabilities:

First, the live data connection between SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP S/4HANA ensures the real-time access to the operational data of SAP S/4HANA on premise – exposed through analytical ABAP Core Data Services (CDS) Views.

An important aspect of this is that the SAP S/4HANA on premise authorizations are applied to ensure data access security. Single-sign-on is recommended to provide a seamless workflow without the need to log on separately.

So far, this is the standard reporting scenario that has attracted customers since years.

Secondly, S/4HANA on premise uses a “wrapper” to open the SAP Analytics Cloud story in an iFrame in the user’s Fiori shell. The iFrame ensures that the capabilities offered by the embedded SAP Analytics Cloud story run as they would in a comparable stand-alone scenario with live data access, such as slice-and-dice, page-switching or filtering.

This “wrapper” is a piece of software delivered as part of the SAP S/4HANA on premise installation. The wrapper and the SAP Analytics Cloud story can exchange information during run-time.

Putting it all together

Next to integrated operational processes, it takes first-class analytics to make an enterprise intelligent: Business users not only expect pre-defined reporting, seamlessly embedded into their daily work, but they want personalized access to data and ad-hoc analytical capabilities to get as much value out of their enterprise data as possible.

And with the deep integration of SAP Analytics Cloud into the solution, this is exactly what SAP S/4HANA Cloud customers get with the 2020 release.
