Updates to Communications Settings — to Reduce Duplication of Notifications
We know this duplication has been a source of frustration for members, so we have retired those two notifications. In their place, we have introduced three new notification types, as shown below:
These notifications will allow you to more finely tune the type of updates you receive — for example, if you spend all of your time in Q&A, perhaps you aren’t interested in Coffee Corner and blogging content — while also eliminating the duplication of notifications that the “Comments and answers to content I follow” and “Updates on my content” options created. Whether it’s a comment or answer to content you follow or created, you’ll now only receive a single notification for each response. (The only time you might experience a duplicate is if somebody also happens to @mention you in the comment or answer, as that will also trigger the “Content I was mentioned in” notification.)
To ensure no disruption to members’ notifications, we turned on these three notifications by default for all accounts. If you find that you are now receiving notifications that you don’t want, however, you can turn them off, per your preference.
With this new update, we believe we can cut down the notifications noise in your inboxes, giving you a much better experience when trying to stay up to date with the community content that interests you most.
Nice...
Wow!! Now this is a great improvement.
Thank the team for me,
Michelle
Possible bug:
Under the Inbox column, when I click on the On/Off slider for the Coffee Corner and Blog Post entries, they don't change and the one for Questions changes instead.
I'm using Chrome 86.0.4240.111

Thanks for reporting, Dell. We are investigating.

This happened for me as well via Firefox 78.2.0esr. When I refreshed the page, the "clicked" buttons had however been changed, even though it didn't had the expected immediate effect while actually trying to click the 2nd or 3rd button.
Cheers
Bärbel
Thanks, Bärbel. I can confirm that once I refreshed the page, I had no difficulty turning on/off notifications for these settings. I've checked in both Chrome and Firefox. Dell, if you refresh and still experience the error, please let me know.

Thanks Jerry! It's working now. However, when I went in, the options I had been trying to turn off were turned off even though they didn't show that when I tried it before. So, something was working right behind the scenes, it was just my browser not updating correctly.

Hi Jerry,
Good to see some improvements.
I have got a question, What If I wanted to get inbox notifications for my blog posts and just email notifications for the blogs that I follow.(same for questions).
I remember it used to work like that earlier. But now I get inbox notifications from my blog post as well as the ones that I follow.
I just want a normal email notification (not important) for the ones that I follow, so I can have a quick look at them. But I want inbox notifications to my blog post comments & questions, as I've to respond to them. If it's in inbox notification, I can always go back, check and reply at my convenience. and I don't want to spam my inbox with the ones that I follow.
I am not sure If I missed any settings here. If not, then it's a downgrade for me 🙁
Thanks,
Mahesh
Hi, Mahesh:
Per the post, keeping those two notification types separate is what led to duplications. So if we separate them again, then we're back to the previous issue.
It seems there's no available solution that will please everyone. I'm sorry you see it as a downgrade, but in working with the current system, we determined this would be the best option for eliminating redundant notifications.
Kind regards,
--Jerry
Thanks for the clarification Jerry. for me, I never had issue with the duplication, as I usually delete unwanted stuff from mail.notiricafions right away and I usually organize my inbox in community in a better way to respond to my content, but like I said, it's getting spammed now,. I understand that it is the community team decision to go head with this approach , now I just have to learn to use this.
Thank you for your understanding, Mahesh.
