With SAP S/4HANA 2020 the news already start with the nomenclature of the release. Instead of using two digits for the release year and two digits for the release month (e.g. 1909 for the release in September 2019), the yearly release is now simply named by the release year: SAP S/4HANA 2020.

But of course, SAP S/4HANA 2020 offers a lot more than a simplified naming approach. Once again, it comes up with a new set of capabilities bringing simplification, innovation, automation, analytics and user experience to customers.

The video provides a first impression of the new release and its highlights across all lines of business. If you are interested now, keep on reading! The following blog will provide further information on each screen that is presented in the video.

Sales & Marketing

Customers Overview: The new overview collects all important sales KPIs for a particular customer and provides the salesclerk with quick insights into sales trends. It furthermore allows to drill down into related apps to take action.

Manage Customer Returns: To improve the return process, the SAP Fiori app now offers capabilities to replace ordered products with products from different plants. Additionally, there are new analytics and a new approval process for returns.

Service

In-House Repair: With In-house repair, services for the products and assets returned from customers can be managed in-house. This process includes planning and scheduling of repairs, capturing received devices with required follow-on actions as well as reviewing the repair results before shipment and billing are triggered.

Recurring Services: It is now possible to plan and schedule recurring services using maintenance plan and service templates, linked with service contracts.

Supply Chain

Situation Handling for Physical Inventory: Situation Handling now facilitates and streamlines the process of physical inventory. By proactively providing the right information to the right person on time, communication lags and process errors are prevented effectively.

Extended Service Parts Planning: The new extended service parts planning allows the planning of inventory for service parts across the supply chain network based on parts volumes, velocity and segments.

Manufacturing

Kanban board: The new graphical kanban board offers intuitive monitoring of lean manufacturing. It provides a detailed overview of kanban control cycles and containers in circulation between the demand source and the supply source.

Predictive MRP: For improved simulation, predictive MRP has been enhanced with new KPIs and now also shows materials with invalid source and violated constraints. Material constraints may be defined with a new dedicated app. Furthermore, it is now possible to create PIRs (for demand-driven components and/or top-level materials) during the release of a simulation.

Sourcing & Procurement

Commodity pricing in central contracts: To increase productivity it is now possible to integrate automatically calculated commodity prices in central contracts. An integrated Gantt chart shows the price validity per main condition.

User-Defined Criteria for Supplier Evaluation: To allow a more customer-specific supplier evaluation, customers have now the option to define and activate up to five individual evaluation criteria as well as the respective weighting and scoring factors.

Research & Development

Dangerous Goods Management: Supporting regular content like UN numbers, phrases and legal information of ADR, IMDG, CFR 49, UNRTDG, IATA, TDG, NOM, ANTT and NCh382, dangerous goods management now allows the automated dangerous goods classification for unpackaged and packaged goods.

Gantt chart for multi-project monitoring: The new Gantt chart for multi-project monitoring is now UI5-based. This is a first step towards an alternative for the current Java-based version.

Asset Management

EHS incident reporting: The EHS incident reporting has been improved offering more intuitive incident reporting as well as better insights through a re-designed home page.

Maintenance management: To organize the maintenance backlog in maintenance management more efficiently, it is now possible to categorize maintenance operations into pre, main and post work.

Finance

Universal Allocation: With the harmonization of the modeling and the execution of allocations within SAP S/4HANA, Universal Allocation ensures transparency of the allocation logic and traceability of the allocation execution. For more detailed information, watch this video.

Treasury Executive Board: Based on SAP Analytics Cloud, the Treasury Executive Dashboard offers a global view of treasury key figures. It allows a tight integration with SAP S/4HANA. For more information about SAP Analytics Cloud in the context of SAP S/4HANA, have a look here.
