On September 22-23, the virtual SAP MaxAttention Innovation workshop "End-to-End Hybrid Operations and DevOps” took place. This wrap-up blog provides an overview about the focus topics of the workshop.
Intelligent enterprises use powerful technologies to turn intelligence into action, in every part of the business. Every touchpoint with customers, employees, products brings valuable insights. Enterprises derive from them opportunities, risks, and trends. All with the goal to continuously improve.
Companies are leveraging SAP’s best practices and model companies to implement their solutions.
For very specific business requirements, SAP offers extensibility features for the digital core: in-app extensibility, and side-by-side extensibility.
SAP offers innovation platform SAP Cloud Platform to build extensions for all SAP products and also 3rd party solutions and embed intelligent technologies into applications. SAP Cloud Platform provides tools to develop and manage those innovations.
During the workshop, we have looked the DevOps toolset as part End to End hybrid solution, based on of SAP Cloud Platform as well as for on-prem in more detail today.
Because the business models, technologies, concepts and budgets are tranforming, we are switching from very well-established business models and products to fast changing market that requires a transformation of the project execution methodologies transforming from traditional waterfall to Agile and now DevOps; in order to enable agility, flexibility, increase time to market at same time reduce costs for operation and incidents.
DevOps mission is to « build on quality » and « deliver on demand » .
The key of the DevOps transformation is Agile and Technological Automation.
Tools like SAP Solution Manager and Focused Build, help achieve agility, controlling and orchestrating end to end DevOps processes.
They introduce automation, robustness, and transparency in the project delivery and application lifecycle management, we have discussed – during the workshop - how the ALM and IT Operations platform from SAP helps customer become more agile, from Requirement to Deploy.
The transformation roadmap is a scaled approach that continuously improves and optimizes. During the workshop, we have seen what accelerators SAP offers to set up CI/CD pipeline quickly and integrate to change control management.
As a pragmatic implementation approach, we proposed to scale out into 4 major pillars.
SAP Solution Manager – Focused Build / Change Control Manager, is the proposed orchestration platform, to link the planning to the development activities (Continuous Integration)
It was presented some examples of how to automate CI/CD chains for hybrid development that includes On-Prem as well as SAP Cloud Platform development.
In the below scenario, we have shown how an agile development process with Jenkins CI can automatically feed changes into SAP Solution Manager. In SAP Solution Manager, all parts of the application stack come together and can be subject to classic change and transport management.
SAP implements tooling for continuous delivery in project "Piper". The goal of project "Piper" is to substantially ease setting up continuous delivery in your project using SAP technologies.
With SAP S/4 HANA 1909 and further, SAP launched gCTS (Git enable CTS), that enables you to manage your ABAP change and transport management processes using Git as external version management system, leveraging the functions of state-of-the-art version control systems, such as continuous integration and continuous delivery controlled by state-of-the-art CI tools.a new transport management capability for ABAP objects via central Git repository and CI Server.
We have presented different capabilities of monitoring, via Machine Learning Monitoring from a Co-Innovation project SAP CoE EMEA SPB and customer Lenta.
As well as discovered how to enhance Dashboard offering from SAP Solution Manager Focused Insight and Focused Run with SAP Analytics Cloud.

SAP Max Attention Service Portfolio
An overview of new SAP Max Attention Service Portfolio for End to End Hybrid Operations and DevOps was presented, aligned with the Intelligent Enterprise and thus offers Services for the Hybrid environment with focus on both Cloud and On-Premise components. With ‘Classic’ SAP MaxAttention, for many years SAP has helped customers adopt and efficiently run their On-premise applications. With the ‘new’ SAP MaxAttention now the same high quality and value driven services are also offered in the Cloud that includes – SAP Ariba, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Concur, SAP Fieldglass, SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition, SAP Integration Business Planning (IBP), SAP Cloud Platform and many other SAP Cloud solutions. This new service portfolio now supports all of the customer deployment models: On-premise, Cloud and Hybrid.
To illustrate the end-to-end project support by the Premium Engagement, we depict the expert services with their outcome relevant for one of the six SAP Activate phases as below.

- Continuous deployment goes one step further than continuous delivery. With this practice, every change that passes all stages of your production pipeline is released to your customers. There's no human intervention, and only a failed test will prevent a new change to be deployed to production.
- Continuous monitoring provides feedback to all major stakeholders in the project such as lines of business, monitoring the “Quality of service” and “Quality of delivery”, key performance indicators on Requirement to Deploy at different stages of the lifecycle. Also measure continuous customer feedback on user behavior and user pain points when using the application.
