A Clear Path to Plan: Updated Maintenance Schedule for SAP HANA
In a previous blog post, we announced the release of SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 and the impact this release would have on maintenance for SAP HANA. In this blog, we stated end of maintenance dates for SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 and SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05. However, based on customer feedback over the past few months, we saw that it was necessary to adapt these dates to better meet the needs of our customers. Therefore, I would like to share a brief update to the maintenance schedules for SAP HANA:
SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 – Released in June 2020, SAP is reaffirming the five-year long-term maintenance period for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05. As originally stated, end of maintenance for this release is at the end of June 2025. This longer maintenance window enables our customers who are upgrading from earlier versions of SAP HANA to remain on the target version for an extended period.
SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 – When it was released in April 2019, SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 originally had a maintenance timeline of two years, as was the case with earlier releases of SAP HANA 2.0. Maintenance was, therefore, planned to end at the end of April 2021. However, as SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 was released in June 2020, we have decided to extend the end of maintenance for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 until the end of June 2021. This gives our customers a full year to upgrade from SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05.
SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 – The release of SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 in 2016 was the final release of SAP HANA 1.0, and it originally had a five-year maintenance term set to end in May 2021. The end of maintenance for SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 has been extended until the end of June 2021. Customers planning to upgrade to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 have a full year to do so, beginning with the release of SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 in June 2020. Upgrading from SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 enables our customer to take advantage of the improved features that are part of SAP HANA 2.0.
We are committed to helping our customers maximize and safeguard their existing investments as they chart their path into the future. Extending the end of maintenance for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 and SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 until the end of June 2021 has given our customers a full year to complete their upgrade to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05. : In addition, there are no further extensions of the maintenance windows of SAP HANA 1.0 SPS 12 or SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 planned beyond the end of June 2021. However, the five-year maintenance term for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05 provides customers currently using previous versions of SAP HANA a clear path to plan and carry out their upgrade, along with the security of knowing that they can remain on the target version for an extended period of time.

End of maintenance for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 04 is currently June 30, 2021 (*only 8-Months away).
Due to COVID corporate-impacts on Remote-Work & 'Business-Continuity' Protocols, it will be very hard for a number of HANA 2.0 SPS 04 deployments to upgrade to SPS 05 until much later into 2021.
We need SAP Product Management to seriously-consider extending SPS 04 support to (at least) end of 2021.

as SAP, we always carefully consider the needs and requirements of our customers, especially in the context of the global effects of COVID19. SAP’s maintenance plan is described in the SAP Note 2378962 – SAP HANA 2.0 Revision and Maintenance Strategy. Although maintenance of a codeline for a product needs to end at a defined point in time, we are still committed to supporting our customers during their move to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 05, which is the long-term maintenance SPS.

We have Hana 1.0 SPS 12 but for us, due to problems on this period, we aren't able to upgrade to Hana 2.0 before june 2021.

SAP HANA 1.0 will go out of mainstream Maintenance on 30th of June of 2021. After which, no further Maintenance Revisions for SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12 will be realeased.
