Let’s have some fun – join our Trivia Contest

[Update // Oct 15th 2020] Winner Announcement!

You voted and it is official! We have our first Trivia Contest Winner. Congrats to Praveer Sen. His trivia about ABAP got voted highest and earned him the Trivia Winner badge!

ABAP used to be an abbreviation of “Allgemeiner Berichts-Aufbereitungs-Prozessor”, (German for “Generic report preparation processor”), but was later renamed to the English “Advanced Business Application Programming”.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated and shared their trivia knowledge around SAP. Especially to the other four finalists we had: Pierre COL, Jörg Knaus, Julien Delvat, and Marco Büscher. Stay tuned for the next Trivia Contest starting November 1st!

SAP Community is a place to learn, to network with your peers, get support, and engage.
It is with great pleasure that we announce a new community activity – the SAP Community Trivia Contest. The idea behind the trivia contest is to share some trivia knowledge amongst us all and benefit from each other. It will be something fun yet hopefully will teach you something as well.

Theme for September:
For this round – we would like to know your trivia knowledge about SAP in general.
Feel free to share with us anything fun and engaging you can think of – really anything that pops up in your mind that you want to share and would be a fun fact to know about for our other community members as well.

For example, we thought about facts similar to:

  • SAP customers produce more than 70% of the world’s chocolate.
  • The new cloud era based idea of “multi tenancy” from a software use perspective … is neither new nor cloud-specific, and was baked into very early SAP software in the 80’s, on R/2 systems that ran on huge mainframes where sharing computing resources was something that was considered. We know this today as the ancient but still used primary key field “MANDT” (for “client” or “tenant”). Foresight and beautiful design.
  • SAP founder Hasso Plattner is a member of the San Jose Sharks ownership group since 2002 and the franchise’s majority owner since 2010.

How it works:
Once you came across a random piece of trivia, please email your submission (the fact) along with the link to your public SAP profile to the sapcommunity@sap.com inbox. Please submit your trivia fact by September 30th, 23:59 Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) / UTC-7. Your community team will do the first round of judging, narrowing down to 5 finalists who have the most random, most interesting and funniest piece of trivia. We will post these 5 finalist submissions in a community Q&A entry so it is available for everyone and that everyone will have a chance to vote on the best one. You are of course also very welcome to leave a comment and engage with the author of the trivia fact.

Ta-taaa – we even reward the author of the highest-voted piece of trivia with a badge!
The Trivia Contest Winner.

Thanks in advance for your submissions. We’re looking forward to it!

      Susan,

Just like you even I am also bad at these simple facts. However, I have shared mine.... Looking forward to see the most interesting trivial facts 🙂

The community driven approach by Simon Kemp ( Simon Kemp / Simon Kemp ) was adopted pretty well and intended to be open for using the input for events driven by the community.

I suggest to cross check the still ongoing collection described here

      SAP Trivia Quiz

and hope people keep on feeding this via the input form mentioned there too.

Having a growing collection there would be helpful for upcoming virtual (and hopefully OnSite) Community Events.

Thank you Christian, for reminding everyone who submits for this contest that they can surely add their trivia to that collection for the community-driven events as well.
