Can’t Find it? Try Case Sensitive Search

This blog post is part of a series called “Tip of the Week”. In this week’s tip we’ll review the Case Sensitive Search mode in forms in order to get to the desired data quickly and easily.

Search engines changed our lives and way of thinking. We adopt it wherever we can and trust it to retrieve what we are looking for. We learned that the more accurate and specific our search value or phrase are – the better results we receive. And yet, sometimes we receive too many results or not the results we expected … now what? In SAP Business One you can search for data within most of the forms, by simply pressing CTRL+F. All the searchable fields are highlighted in bright yellow color – you just have to type the relevant value in the respective field, and choose the Find button:

If too many results appear, you can fine tune your searches by enabling case sensitive search:

When selected, the search considers upper case and lower case in the search value you enter and retrieves only the record that fit that value.

Available in SAP Business One, version for SAP HANA.

I hope you found this information helpful and as always, I’m looking forward to your feedback in the comments section below. Hello Ari,

From which version of SAP Business One this option is available?

By default searching in SAP B1 HANA is case sensitive (we've got 9.3 version), so this checkbox will be enabled by default and we can disable it?

      Regards,

      Daniel

      Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your comment. This option is available since 8.82.

By default, the checkbox is not selected – i.e. case-sensitive search is disabled, and you as a user can activate it by selecting the checkbox.

More detailed information can be found in SAP Note 1785922

      Regards,

      Maya

      Hi Maya,

Ok thanks. I've checked on the database and checkbox is unchecked. But it doesn't work in UDF's. On user fields there are still "case sensitive" search. Is there any solution to change it?

      Regards,

      Daniel

      Hi Daniel,

Checked now in release 10.0 , and this setting applies to user-defined fields of "Alphanumeric" type.

If you want, send me the detailed scenario to my e-mail: maya.shiff@sap.com , and I will have a closer look

      Regards,

      Maya

      Hi Maya,

Thanks for the information. Is there any chance to extend this also to Long text?

That is a big inconvenience at one of our clients.

      Regards,

      Daniel
