UI5 Web Components version rc.8 is here!

We are happy to share release candidate 8 of UI5 Web Components with you.

In our latest release, we focused our efforts on some important and valuable topics. We have spent quite some time stabilizing our base project and opening parts of our functionality to be used by applications. We have invested in both expanding our current components set & adding new features to already existing components as well. You can find more details below.

You are welcome to get a taste on our release candidate, we are looking forward to receiving your feedback!

Sincerely
UI5 Web Components Team

RELEASE CANDIDATE 8

A Dozen of New Components

With our latest version of UI5 Web Components, we expand the set of components we offer with quite a few new components. The new additions to our library are as follows: Notification List Item & Notification Group List Item, Tree, Rating Indicator, Progress Indicator, DateRange Picker, Flexible Column Layout and Side Navigation.

As you might have already noticed, one of our new components stands out. It is the Flexible Column Layout. This is the first layout component in our library!

New Features for Existing Components

  • Input highlighting
  • Input supports inactive suggestions
  • Improved layouting of ui5-dialog
  • Shellbar now provides logo slot (instead of property)

Important Changes to Existing Components

  • ui5-timepicker is renamed to ui5-time-picker
  • ui5-datepicker is renamed to ui5-date-picker
  • All events are renamed from camelCase to kebab-case
  • ui5-tabcontainer no longer preselects the first tab if no tab is selected

Samples & docs of all our components can be found in our Playground.

Support For Multiple Instances of UI5 Web Components

RC8 comes with built in support for multiple instances of UI5 Web Components in a single page. Now, if there is more than one instance loaded, many shared resources would be loaded only once, e.g. Static area, CSS Variables styles, font styles and others.

New Themes Available

With our latest release, we are adding two more themes to the set of themes that we offer. The new themes are Quartz High Contrast Black and Quartz High Contrast Light. Now the set of themes for UI5 Web Components reaches the number of 7!

Localization Settings

We have added support for dynamic change of language and RTL settings on the fly. This means that you don’t have to reload the whole page in order to change the localization settings. All that should be done is to use our new API. Moreover, we have added support for translating your application using the UI5 Web Components setup. Step by step tutorial can be found here.

Changelog

For further details and especially in case you need to adapt your applications please check out the full changelog. Your feedback is valuable for us, so let us know what you think!

What is coming around the corner?

We are currently in a phase of documenting and stabilizing our API’s so that they are all set for our official 1.0.0 release. However, we keep on being flexible and working on topics that are important & valuable for our stakeholders. If you happen to need something from our side, feel free to get in touch with us.
