Check out Document Translation – the new service available in SAP Translation Hub

2020 has been a year full of change and resilience. The world is going through a global pandemic, and several other social revolutions and events invite us to reflect on our society. In the business world, things aren’t much different – most companies and most employees have had to adjust their working methods and environment in order to cope with this exceptional situation. In times like this, global collaboration and communication are more relevant than ever to overcome the current and remaining challenges of this year. Language and culture remain determining aspects that shape how business relationships evolve.

Since 2017, SAP Translation Hub has been helping SAP customers and partners with their language and translation needs. With SAP Translation Hub, you can translate UI strings and texts with the support of different languages resources (such as linguistic repositories and machine translation). It also offers different translation and correction workflows in case customers want to modify the output themselves. If this is not enough, we also collaborate with trusted localization and translation professionals that can help our customers get their translation to the next quality level.

The new Document Translation Service

With the new Document Translation Service, we broaden the scope of SAP Translation Hub. This service enables you to directly translate documents using only machine translation without any additional linguistic resources or translation workflows required. You get back a document in the language of your choice, in the same format as the original document. The machine translation performs at its best when translating documents that contain SAP-related content, and it is available in the same language scope already supported by SAP Translation Hub.

The service can handle different format types (.html and .txt using UTF-8 encoding, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and xliff 1.2), it can be consumed in three different ways (formData, RAW, JSON) and we offer synchronous and asynchronous APIs. You can choose which API to use according to your needs and business scenario. For smaller documents up to 40,000 characters and faster translation results, you can use the synchronous API (note that there are different character limits depending on the language). For bigger documents up to 2.5 million characters, you can use the asynchronous API, query on the status of translation and get it back whenever it is available. Additionally, the translations of these longer documents remain available for 3 days after translation has finished.

If you would like to find out more about the service, check out our documentation or try it out in the SAP API Business Hub. Find out more details about the event, we’re looking forward to seeing you there!
