Simplified Configuration of Help Links in SAP S/4HANA

UPDATE 23/09/2022: Transaction SHELP_CONFIG will be shipped with S/4HANA 2022 (related report: RSIWR_HELP_CONFIG) and old transaction HELP_CONFIG will be deprecated in S/4HANA 2023 (related report: R_AUTOMATED_HELP_CONFIG).

As member of the SAP S/4HANA Regional Implementation Group, I have the privilege of working with a lot of customers who are implementing SAP S/4HANA. One of the installation follow-up activities are user assistance settings, and here Jens Steinbrenner’s Documentation Tools team, which is part of the SAP S/4HANA Architecture Cluster,  drove the development of the new transaction (HELP_CONFIG), which enables customers to automatically configure back-end settings relevant for documentation on SAP Help Portal and front-end settings, which are relevant for in-app help in an embedded deployment scenario.

Simplified configuration of the hub deployment scenario via RFC connection will be supported as of SAP S/4HANA 2020 FPS00.

Transaction HELP_CONFIG can be used as of SAP S/4HANA 1909 FPS 2

On earlier version you can check Hannes’s blog about How to setup the User Assistant in your S/4HANA Fiori launchpad and his blog provide detail information about Configuration of the SAP Web DispatcherStep 1 : Setup Web Dispatcher, create 2 additional routes and import certificates, which are still necessary.

https://blogs.sap.com/2020/01/07/sap-fiori-for-sap-s-4hana-how-to-setup-the-user-assistant-in-your-s-4hana-fiori-launchpad/

Let’s focus on the recommended deployment scenario SAP S/4HANA 1909 FPS 2 with embedded SAP Fiori.

  1. Run transaction HELP_CONFIG (Configure Help Settings).
  2. Select Embedded Deployment, prefilled fields are displayed.
  3. Modify values if required. In the Version field, choose the “latest” version.

The latest version ensures that help links in a specific release are always up to date, meaning that you do not need to run the transaction after every upgrade to the latest feature or support package stack. Of course, in a situation where you are staying on one of the FPS of an SAP S/4HANA system and want to display the corresponding documentation, you can use the version values like “1909.000” or “1909.001” instead of “1909.latest”.

SAP S/4HANA 1909 FPS 2 with Hub deployment of SAP Fiori.

In the HUB deployment you will have to make a configuration in the front-end and back-end system. So, let’s log on to the backend SAP S/4HANA system.

  1. Run transaction HELP_CONFIG (Configure Help Settings).
  2. Select Hub Deployment. Prefilled fields are displayed.

In the HUB deployment scenario, we must configure the front-end settings manually.

  1. Log on to front-end system
  2. Run transaction FLP Customer Settings (/UI2/FLP_CUS_CONF)
  3. Under FLP Configuration, click on Change → Display and then on New Entries.
  4. In the field FLP Property ID, select or enter ENABLE_HELP.
  5. Enter the property value true.
  6. Click on Save.
  7. Double-click on FLP Plugins.
  8. Click on Change → Display and then on New Entries.
  9. In the field FLP Plugin ID, select or enter WEB_ASSISTANT_HELP_PLUGIN and in the field Activity State, choose Active.
  10. Highlight the entry WEB_ASSISTANT_HELP_PLUGIN and double-click on Configuration.
  11. Click on New Entries.
  12. Enter the following values:

      Hello Peter,

Thanks for the Very informative blog.

I have configured User Assistant to my Fiori Launchpad. ? icon is coming on the launchpad. But when ever I clicked on any tile(selecting an app) then in-app help(which gives us the all information about the app like ABOUT the APP, Different Functionalities of  Buttons) is not coming.

I don't know what I have missed . Can you tell me what I am missing?

      I am using S4 HANA 1909 FPS 002 - ON PREMISE .

I have followed every step in configuring the User assistance from your blog and from https://blogs.sap.com/2020/01/07/sap-fiori-for-sap-s-4hana-how-to-setup-the-user-assistant-in-your-s-4hana-fiori-launchpad/.

below screen shot is from my Launchpad. Even after selecting any tile I am getting the HELP as it like on Home page only. not getting the in-app help

I am expecting like below (below screen shot copied from https://blogs.sap.com/2020/01/07/sap-fiori-for-sap-s-4hana-how-to-setup-the-user-assistant-in-your-s-4hana-fiori-launchpad/)

Or is there anything required to configure to get the IN-APP HELP or does it require License?

Hi Rakesh - for some reason we are not seeing the screenshots? Can you try again?

You might also want to check your web browser's developer tools - see if the Console log is showing any errors in reaching the user assistant site - it might be a firewall/proxy issue.

You should be seeing help for any SAP delivered Fiori app.

No there is no additional licence to use the in-app help as-is - it is included as part of your SAP S/4HANA offering.

      Rgds

      HI Rakesh

Ok so if you are getting CORS errors then your Web Dispatcher parameters and trust certificates are the most likely  cause.  In blog https://blogs.sap.com/2020/01/07/sap-fiori-for-sap-s-4hana-how-to-setup-the-user-assistant-in-your-s-4hana-fiori-launchpad/ please check the section on:

Step 1 : Setup Web Dispatcher, create 2 additional routes and import certificates.

      Hi

I tried configuring this ..Basic Enable help is working as expected.

But I am facing the below issue While trying to Edit.Error%20on%20Launchpad

      Error on Launchpad

The moment i click on Edit  icon the attached error is appearing

I checked with my basis team and they were saying like i am already having write permission.

Below are configuration values i maintained in the system

Can you suggest Where am I failing? Am I maintaining the correct values in  DATA_URL_WPB2 and SERVICE_LAYER_VERSION ?   Please help to trouble shoot this.

      Hi Developer HCL,

Ok so it's the webdispatcher that takes care of cross origin settings.

Looks like you are still missing the webdispatcher configuration... as noted at the top of this blog post:

How to setup the User Assistant in your S/4HANA Fiori launchpad and his blog provide detail information about Configuration of the SAP Web Dispatcher – Step 1 : Setup Web Dispatcher, create 2 additional routes and import certificates, which are still necessary.

If you get your team to complete that then it should all be fine.

Hi Peter Nechala and Jocelyn Dart

We are on S/4 HANA 2020 FPS02 on prem. The requirement is to be able to provision this feature to users through role/catalog. I have tried but not been successful.

Is this not possible in 2020?

Please could you provide information on the catalog configuration if this is possible in S/4 HANA 2020

      Thanks

      Ranjit

      Hi Ranjit

Yes it certainly possible and encouraged on your release.
As you can see from previous comments usually what people miss is the need to adjust your webdispatcher (ie reverse proxy) parameters so that you avoid cross origin errors in your web browser

Follow the guidance... as noted at the top of this blog post:

How to setup the User Assistant in your S/4HANA Fiori launchpad and his blog provide detail information about Configuration of the SAP Web Dispatcher – Step 1 : Setup Web Dispatcher, create 2 additional routes and import certificates, which are still necessary.
