Export content and data in SAP Analytics Cloud

Exporting serves an important purpose in Content and Change Management. Here we will be employing the deployment method to export the objects. A model or story can be transported along with its underlying objects from one system to another.

Exporting is required when we need to transfer contents between deployments, or to back-up the current state of objects in case we need to revert back the changes.This will store your objects on a local machine.

It is worth nothing that exported content can only be imported to the same version of SAC from which it is imported or the next version. It is not a way of archiving objects.

This method can also be employed for moving Objects from Neo tenant to Cloud Foundry tenant. Find more information on migration here.

Pre-requisites:

Users with Life cycle Maintained permissions can export a range of objects from SAP Analytics Cloud or import objects that have previously been exported.

The objects that you want to migrate must be moved to public folder as the export will only pick from their.

Steps:

Lets create an export.

Go to main menu -> deployment and then Export

It opens the export log, where previous/scheduled exports are mentioned, here we will select highlighted plus sign to start new export

 

This open a new screen, here in the left panel we can chose the objects to export including dimensions, models, stories, roles, currency tables, etc refer the list in the below screenshot.

 

 

We can select all the objects of any category or expand the list to choose the individual objects we want. Lets proceed by exporting a story

 

Whenever you select a story all the dependent objects are selected automatically. Here we can see a list of associated dimensions, models, tables, etc that are also selected for the export. We can clear these dependent objects if we they are not required. For some object types we can also choose if we want to export the associated data.

 

 

Once you are satisfied with all the selections, click on the export button on the top right corner of the screen.

 

Give a name for your export to be saved locally and click on the Export Button. You can also include the audit data in the export if desired by clicking on the check box for 'Include Audit Data'

 

The objects starts exporting and you can see the progress on the top bar.

We'll get a success message once the process is completed and a pop-up to save the file locally.

You can see the exports by clicking on the export tab and see our export in the list.

Here by using the menu on the top right corner you can refresh this list, create a new export, delete or copy existing exports and search for exports from the list. You can also see all the details of an export by clicking on it in the export list, this will open a new window with all the details. Here you can add or remove items or re-export if desired.

 

Now you have a Zipped file of all the objects and data that you have exported from SAC in you system saved locally.
