SAP Business Client with Integrated Fiori Launchpad and SAP GUI for Windows #ASUG Webcast Recap
First, special thanks to SAP’s Carine Tchoutouo Djomo for setting this webcast up for ASUG. I am so grateful we met in person at last year’s SAP TechEd Las Vegas.
This was an ASUG webcast this week covering both SAP Gui Windows 7.70 and Business Client 7.7
SAP Gui for Windows
In 2020 SAP introduces Fiori 3 theme, the “Quartz” theme
Dark version of theme is provided, for the first time in SAP Gui history
This has been requested
No technical prerequisites
Quartz will be default theme on new installation (PC has no prior gui installed)
In the past, used IE explorer control inside the Gui (ActiveX browser)
MS end of IE
Edge with Chrome engine with ActiveX control
Chromium Edge control within SAP Gui for Windows, a more modern version of browser
Before switch to Chromium check on existing items
If you use laptop with big monitor (2K resolution), up to 760 Gui only took scaling for main monitor (in this case your laptop) – see side effects in scaling
To fix this, built in feature, 7.70, default is off
NetWeaver RFC controls, using MS Office, Excel sheets that interact with an SAP system, retrieve live data, only available 32 bit version
Seeing big use 64 bit of MS office and won’t find the RFC controls
64 bit version available
SAP Business Client
Standard client for Business Suite
Integrate Fiori Launchpad in Business Client
In S/4HANA, customers still using classical transactions
Embedded SAP Gui for Windows – one entry point to apps
Quartz comes from name of quartz minerals
Available in light and dark variations
Control relies on fast chromium rendering
Can select manually or admin XML file
New features to improve user experience
Session timeout – no dumps any more due to session handling
Complete 64 bit versions for the client
Dynamic browser control – selected automatically
Align menu from left to right, save space
Integration of central Fiori Launchpad – path to the cloud
Access all apps from one entry point, cloud or on-premise
Demo of Quartz selection
In the beta phase now for 7.70
Release to customer (“RTC”) is now postponed and will be end of year
It (the 7.7 release) will be a “Christmas present”
Support line for 7.50 – ran out of support a few months ago
Timelines are important to keep track of support
Business Client 6.5 is running out of maintenance
Q: How can customers access beta version?
A: Beta is closed; had so many participants
Not an open beta
Beta has been running for a while
Next beta will be 2023; “ask early”
Q: BC 7.7 or Gui 7.7 work with NW 7.5 or just S/4HANA?
A: Completely downward compatible, no additional license costs, works with all the systems
Thanks to Sandra Thimme and Ralph Resach for an informative webcast. Are you looking forward to the “Christmas” present?
Thanks for the recap.
Sounds like the new version includes number of useful (essential) improvements
Thank you for reading and commenting, Shai – I agree - lots of useful improvements.
I am a big fan of the SAP Business Client. When is the new release coming now? Unfortunately I was too late to register for the BETA version.
I thought it was around Christmas time...subject to change. Thank you for reading and commenting
