Context

Earlier this year, SAP announced the General Availability of SAP HANA Cloud - the next generation of Enterprise Data Management and Data Processing built for the cloud.

SAP HANA Cloud is a modern, multi-cloud Database as a Service (DBaaS) offering, which brings the power of SAP HANA to the cloud. The new service is architected to bring in cloud-native features like Flexibility and Scalability, to complement the amazing in-memory performance that HANA is already well known for.

With SAP HANA Cloud, customers can realize business value from their data in real-time, irrespective of the size and type of data.

SAP HANA and SAP Cloud Platform

SAP HANA has always been an essential and integral part of the 'database & storage' portfolio on SAP Cloud Platform, since the days of platform inception. SAP HANA was and still continues to be THE persistence option of choice for consumers developing applications in the SAP Cloud Platform Neo environment.

With the introduction of our Multi-Cloud strategy and platform deployment on hyperscaler infrastructures, SAP HANA has also been offered, albeit in slightly different flavors, on the SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Foundry environment.

The 'SAP HANA Service' has already been available for consumers on AWS and Azure infrastructures to date. These offerings provided - an ‘on-premise like' HANA system running on the Cloud and fully managed by SAP.

The new offering SAP HANA Cloud being a ground-up cloud-native implementation of SAP HANA, empowers users to store data, tier data, and ensure that business data is accessible whenever needed.

Due to this cloud-native architecture, SAP HANA Cloud consumers will enjoy true ‘cloud’ benefits like the ability to scale as required, the flexibility to store, move and manage data according to business requirements while ensuring low cost of ownership (TCO) with the introduction of low-cost storage options.

SAP HANA Cloud in SAP Cloud Platform

Following the Multi-Cloud strategy @ SAP Cloud Platform, the SAP HANA Cloud offering has been made Generally Available on the Microsoft Azure and AWS infrastructures, earlier this year. Availability on Google Cloud Platform and AliCloud infrastructures is planned in the future.

Based on the benefits detailed above, I am sure you are able to visualize that SAP HANA Cloud will be the next step in the evolution of SAP HANA, on and for the Cloud. SAP HANA Cloud will be the true successor of HANA offerings on the SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Foundry environment.

As a consequence, we have planned to retire the current SAP HANA Service offerings for Microsoft Azure and AWS infrastructures, starting January 15th, 2021, for new Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA) deals.

So starting July 15th, 2020, you will see retirement notices in your CPEA account cockpit and the Service Catalog for the SAP HANA Service on Azure and AWS regions. More information on the CPEA retirement for SAP HANA Service on Azure regions can be found in the FAQ here.

There is no impact on the SAP HANA Service offering on the SAP Cloud Platform Neo environment.

Kindly note that all current customers using the SAP HANA Service in our multi-cloud infrastructures will continue to be supported in accordance with existing contracts. SAP is fully committed to support you with recommendations for a smooth transition to the target state with ‘SAP HANA Cloud’.
