SAP Data Warehouse Cloud integrated with SAP SQL data warehousing sharing a single DB-Tenant

This Blog describes the capabilities to share a single HANA Cloud DB-Tenant for both SAP SQL data warehousing and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud scenarios.

The capabilities of “SAP Data Warehouse Cloud – Hybrid – access to SAP HANA for SQL data warehousing” is shared in this Blog: https://blogs.sap.com/2020/06/19/sap-data-warehouse-cloud-hybrid-access-to-sap-hana-for-sql-data-warehousing/

SAP tooling (here: SAP WebIDE full-stack, SAP PowerDesigner, DB-Explorer) & non-SAP tooling will be leveraged to model, build, deploy and run the SAP SQL data warehousing solution which is building into the HDI-Container environment. The SAP WebIDE specific HANA artefacts, like: Calculation View, Flowgraph, Synonym, Git … are fully supported in this environment.

The details of the SAP HANA for SQL data warehousing solution is represented on this SAP community page:  https://community.sap.com/topics/sql-data-warehousing

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud provides the ability to assign the build HDI-Container to a SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Space, which provides immediate access (no data movent required) from the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Editors to the objects and content of the Space assigned HDI-container. It’s not required to create a remote connection, as the HDI container(s) are build on the same HANA Cloud DB-tenant where SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is also running on.

SAP Data Warehouse Cloud is available today as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) variant, where the customer is leveraging the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud consumable objects as a Source of the e.g. Calculation View, Flowgraph, Synonym … . Additional persistent tables can be created with data processed and persisted e.g. by using the SDI Flowgraph.

We’re still in the planning mode to offer a SAP Data Warehouse Cloud “Base Service” as a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) variant, where the customer can bring it’s own HANA Cloud DB-Tenant with loaded content and data which has been created by using the SAP tooling (here: SAP WebIDE, SAP PowerDesigner, DB-Explorer) & non-SAP tooling.

The customer “owns” the DB-Tenant incl. System full-access in this case, where also remote-Sources (DP-Agent + Adapter) can be configured – providing the full flexibility required to support the pure Developer Use-Case known from the SAP HANA for SQL data warehousing solution. It’s planned to install SAP Data Warehouse Cloud (PaaS) on-top of the already existing HANA Cloud DB-Tenant, to enable and extend to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud capabilities.

The planned commercial model of the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud “Base Service” (PaaS) will be Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA), where SAP is providing the individual services on the SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) in addition to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud “Base Service” (PaaS).

That's great news and will allow us the full power of HANA underneath the Data Warehouse.
