SAP EWM: Recalculate HU Capacity

Quote.

“The capitalist distribution network, a complex chain of factory, transport, warehouse and retail outlet, is one of the greatest male accomplishments in the history of culture.” – Camille Paglia
This quote about a series of blog-posts about warehouse management system (WMS) – SAP EWM

Prerequisites.

You received an error during WT creation:

Maximum volume (incl. tolerance) for HUXXXXXXX was exceeded by 198.134 M3. Message No. /SCWM/HUGENERAL064

Resolution.

Step 1. Master Data in ERP
A common  case when SAP EWM consume master data from outside (basically from SAP ERP)
Goto transaction MM02 (Change Material) in ERP system
Section Basic Data 1/ Dimensions
Check and fix value in the fields:
  • Gross Weight
  • Net Weight
  • Volume
For example, small thing (something like paper instruction) can’t weigh 1KG
One HU can contain hundreds of thousands paper instructions
100.000 x 1KG -> maximum volume was exceeded in HU
On this step, you fix master data in SAP ERP and correct values integrated to SAP EWM
Step 2. Master Data in EWM
Check correct master data in transaction /SCWM/MAT1 (Display/Change/Create Warehouse Task)
Section Properties / Measurement and Weights
but correct values in /SCWM/MAT1 maybe not enough in this situation. You must recalculate HU capacity yet
Step 3. Recalculate HU Capacity
Step. 3.1. Download/Open ZRECALCULATE_CAPA ABAP Report
Copy ABAP code to clipboard
Alternative – Note 2333338
2333338 – CHM: Capacity correction
Step. 3.2. Create a New Report
Create New Report  ZRECALCULATE_CAPA  in Transaction SE38 and paste ABAP text from a clipboard
Alternative – Note 2333338
2333338 – CHM: Capacity correction
Step. 3.3. Execute  Report ZRECALCULATE_CAPA
Lgnum – Warehouse number
Storage bin – You can check storage bin address for HUXXXXXXX in Transaction /SCWM/MON)
Save log to DB – checked
Simulation and Update – checked
Result.  Report recalculate HU Capacity in two HU
Step 4 (optional). Assign Z-report to Transaction
Go to Transaction code se93
Give a transaction name you want to create.
For example ZRECALCHU
Execute create button
Give a sort of text.
Choose the first radio button & Enter
Give the custom program name for which you want to create a transaction
(In our case ZRECALCULATE_CAPA)
Give the screen no as 1000
Check all the checkbox under GUI support
Save & Activate
Alternative – Note 2333338
2333338 – CHM: Capacity correction

Conclusion.

SAP EWM Routine task with examples from real life was provided

      Hi Roman,

good article, but isn't it easier in this situation just to change manually gross volume/weight in the HU header? Does it happen often in your projects?

It also concerns only in case the target storage type is with HU-management as in other case only the volume/weight of the HU content is considered in the capacity calculation.
