Announcement: SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite Simplification

SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite is the iPaaS of choice for hybrid integration needs. SAP API Business Hub offers more than 1450 integration packs to jumpstart your integration projects and significantly reduce your development efforts. Our rich set of capabilities that include comprehensive connectivity options, process integration, and API Management capabilities, complemented by SAP Cloud Connector, the recommended tool for on-premise to cloud connectivity. Although maintenance for process orchestration has been extended till 2030, we recommend that you still use Integration Suite for hybrid integration use cases along with the Integration Suite runtime in SAP Process Orchestration, and migrate fully to Integration Suite in the long run. For a more detailed recommendation and actionable steps on how you can transition to Integration Suite while protecting your existing PI/PO investments, check out this blog by Harsh on the “Way Forward with PI/PO and Recommended Actions“.

We are constantly listening to your feedback and trying to shape our offering to meet your integration needs. We are happy to announce that we have made significant progress in ensuring that your user experience is as seamless as possible:

  • Common launchpad for all our capabilities
  • Simplified onboarding and provisioning
  • Simplified metering and pricing
  • Redesigned Integration Solution Advisory Methodology (ISA-M) to help assess your organization’s integration maturity

Common Launchpad

The Integration Suite features a rich set of capabilities that offer a wide range of features. We want to ensure that you have a seamless user experience while using these capabilities. To that end, we are introducing a new common launchpad for all the Integration Suite capabilities. This is in principle, your Integration Suite home screen. You can access the services that you have activated. You can also access our product documentation, community, and other resources you might need to use our Integration Suite’s capabilities to achieve your use cases.

Here’s a blog by my colleague Vinayak on how you can “Kickstart your Integration Suite Experience with the Launchpad

Simplified Onboarding and Provisioning

We want to ensure that you get started with minimal effort. In terms of getting started with the service after your purchase, we are offering a new and improved provisioning self-service on the SAP Cloud Platform Cockpit. You can choose the capabilities that you want to activate with a minimum number of clicks and get started with the Integration Suite. For more details on the simplified onboarding and provisioning experience, please refer to this blog on our community: Integration Suite – Simplified Onboarding and Provisioning

Simplified Metering and Pricing

We have significantly simplified the buying experience by offering an improved metering and pricing model. Going forward, there will be only one metric that will be a standard across all the capabilities – messages. This is in-line with the industry standards as well to ensure that you don’t have to deal with the complexity of what goes on under-the-hood. The current licensing ensures that all the integration capabilities you need are tightly integrated as a cohesive iPaaS. You have the flexibility to opt for multiple instances or a higher volume of messages based on your organization’s consumption needs. To know more about the pricing model, please get in touch with your account executives.

New Integration Suite Community on SAP Communities

Speaking of the community, we have also launched the new SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite community on the SAP Community site. Make sure that you bookmark the community home page and stay updated with all the content from Integration Suite experts within SAP and from outside SAP as well. Feel free to contribute to the community by sharing your experience, expertise, and experiments with SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite. Does this mean everyone who is using CPI in the Neo platform needs to migrate to Cloud Foundry and start using the integration suite?

      Thanks,

      Srini

      Hi Srini,

There is no forced change for existing customers on Neo, but we do strongly recommend migrating to Integration Suite for all the benefits it offers 🙂

      Cheers, Gautham

      Hi Gautham,

you mean there is no forced change till the end of the current contract or in case of extension of the contract after the 1 January 2021 also?

I'm wondering because the message we are receiving in our subaccount is not too clear compared to what you are saying and what SAP says in this note https://apps.support.sap.com/sap/support/knowledge/en/2954335

We are receiving this "This service is scheduled to be removed from the list of Eligible Cloud Services as of January 1, 2021. It will be available until the end of the current subscription term. It will not be available for renewal terms that begin after the removal date.". How to undestand the meaning of it?

I see the price for a single tenant of the Integration Suite and it is 4000 Eur/month (in the estimator). Is it the real price or is it a mistake?

Thanks and sorry to bother you,

      Rossano

Unfortunately we have the same situation.

Our current contract ends mid of next year and we are now looking for options.

Probably we will look after third party offers. The cost for the new SAP product is  way to high for use in relation to the benefits.

      cheers,

      Kay

      Hi Gautham,

Thanks for the information you've shared.

As we have customer with Open Connector, today when I visit the SAP Cloud Platform estimator tools I found the bellow :

      SAP%20Open%20Connector%20Service%20Notification

      SAP Open Connector Service Notification

      What does this mean?

How is the roadmap ahead of the integration with non SAP?

      Kindly advise on this matter.

      Thanks and Regards,

      Hi Hari,

This is a question that has confusing many customers. Not to fear, Open Connectors remains as part of the SAP Integration offering. We have removed the service from the price list as an individual purchase, and will be no longer offering provisioning of the individual service tiles, it will move under the Integration Suite. However existing customers continue to be supported as before.

      Regards,
      Elijah

      Hi Elijah Martinez,

      Thanks for the clarification.

Actually someone from SAP has contacted me directly.

Telling me the same as you've mentioned above.

      Best regards,

API management has been listed as one of the services that will be (re-)moved to integration suite. If we only use the API management this means an increase in price from 150 € / M to 4000 € / M. In which way is this an improved pricing model for the customer?

      Hi Nicolas,

Many customers reported that they would like all the capabilities like Cloud Integration, Non-SAP connectivity and API Management in one service, which is what we have improved. If you are currently using standalone API Management, your existing tenants will continue to exist. Overall, the value of the big suite is much more and we have received a lot of positive feedback from customers for this change.

Gartner has also ranked us as a leader due to this change.

      Thanks & Best Regards, Gautham

      Hi Gautham,

I would like to understand the new license model.

In the service plan it is states that there are 3 different plans:

      • Standard
      • Premium
      • Digital

In the estimator I only get “Standard” (4000€/month for a single tenant). Am I missing something?

      And just for my understanding.

We have licensed API management and in there have (which I see as the value of cloud offereings) multiple instances. The overall message calls assemble over all instances. Would that still be the same for API Management within Integration Suite? What exactly does tenant mean in this license model?

Currently we have 1.5M requst licensed and run on 3+ instances. Costs like Nicolas stated are at 150€/m. How much would that cost me on Integration Suite? 12.000€/month? I hope not, as this would be a cost increase of 80.000%. Of course I get a lot more in that suite. A component based pricing would be truly desired.

      Regards

      Holger

      Hi Holger,

The Premium service plan is available via subscription model only,

In this license model, you will get one tenant of API Management per subscription of Integration Suite. This was a conscious decision to ensure that customers do not complicate their landscape with too many instances of a capability.

About the component based pricing model, really appreciate your feedback on this. We weighed the overall feedback we were getting and the general feedback leaned towards suite based pricing. Hence, the new model. This has been very well received, indicated by how we are positioned as a leader in the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for iPaaS.

      Best Regards, Gautham

      Hi Gautham

thank you for your valuable response. I think I understand now. Thank you!

A couple of thoughts of mine:

      • On our S/4 Hana environment we are able to spin up sandbox systems pretty easily. With the API of cloud connector the setup of new configuration into the SCP is also scriptable. So on Premise we are very flexible. In an API first approach a sanbox must have the APis exposed. In this flexibility the new license model seems very hindering to have the freedom of having full integrated sandbox systems
      • In our non-sap integration setup we rely on kubernetes, spinning up a complete new env there within out paid managed kubernetes is just a matter of running a couple of pipeline jobs. And I was very happy when I saw that in theory with our API management subscription we would be able to do the same as we pay for the usage and not for the instance. DevOps is all about flexibility and also scriptability to be able to react fast, to compensate failures and to deliver value along the complete lifecycle. There the new model is imho a blocking part.
      • In addition to the component based procing, an idea would be to have a consumption based model in which we e.g. have the possibility to spin up new envs on a pay per use model. Just like we have that with AWS and azure services. I call those the "cloud native metrics".
      • I do not see the correlation of the positioning in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for iPaas. Isn't that more about vision, and execution of that vision? The products inside integration suite in total deserve that positioning as it is truly a powerful set. The license model I don't see reflected in the Gartner Assessment. And I would expect that giving the sketched flexibility sketched above the positioning would rather get better than worse.

For us that new model really raised the question of which way to go. The cost explosion is quite tremendeous - looking purely on API management. Lets see how API management develops and if that new model also boost the usability of API management in terms of feature richness and operatibility also.

      Best regards

      Holger
