Switch from Odata V1 to V2 – SAP Groupware Server-side Integration

Administrators should switch all profiles in their organization to Open Data Protocol, version 2 (OData V2).

Context

Using the latest version of the OData API allows your SAP solution to query, read, add, update, and delete data from and into SAP Cloud for Customer. Switch each profile to OData data manually. SAP documentation on OData V2 can be found here

Recommendation

When you have switched add-in settings or sync settings in a profile to OData V2, it’s only possible to go back to OData V1 with assistance from support. Before switching all profiles to OData V2, we suggest that administrators:

  1. Pick one profile convert it to OData V2. Alternately the administrator can COPY and create a NEW profile. (The original profile can be deleted once the conversion is done)
  2. Review conversion notes and address and then dismiss them.
  3. Apply the profile only to yourself and verify that it works correctly.
  4. Apply the profile to other users who had it previously.

Procedure

  1. Log on to your SAP solution as an administrator and go to E-Mail Integration  Groupware Settings  Profiles.
  2. Open the profile that you want to switch to OData V2.
  3. Under Sync Settings  OData API V2, toggle the switch on.
  4. Under Add-In Settings  OData API V2, toggle the switch on.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Review conversion notes, address and then dismiss them.
  7. If you have tested OData V2 change as outlined in the note, save your changes and apply them to all users in the profile. Alternatively this profile can also be added to a specific user
  8. Repeat these steps for each profile in your organization.

The above procedure is also maintained in SAP Documentation

Stages of switching from V1 to V2

Encourage Mode – In this mode users would be informed via the application to switch from Odata V1 to V2.

  • Users can still use the SAP Cloud for Customer Server-side Integration, but error messages appear encouraging them to contact their administrator to make the switch to OData V2.
  • For administrators, on the Profile and Users tab, columns appear that show the OData status (V1 or V2) for the add-in and sync. Profiles that aren’t yet in V2 appear in red.

This mode would be turned on from the 1st week of June in the production system and would be available until 14th of July.

Enforce Mode – In this mode users would be asked via the application to mandatorily switch from Odata V1 to V2.

  • Users cannot use the SAP solution. Error messages appear, explaining why the service isn’t accessible.
  • For administrators, on the Profile and Users tab, columns appear that show the OData status (V1 or V2) for the add-in and sync. Profiles that aren’t yet in V2 appear in red.

This mode would be turned on from the 15th of July in the production system.

Exception

In case customers have any concerns with the above process or the timelines then they are requested to raise an incident with detail information and reasons for getting an exception. Please also note that the exceptions would be available until 2008 release
