Here is the Video for this blog for 1909 FPS0 (Not FPS2 but process is similar):
This blog includes installation of S/4HANA 1909 FPS2 and will focus on creating Sandbox type instance with co-deployed (embedded Fiori gateway).
The step by step procedure for Best Practices Content Activation on S/4HANA 1909 FPS1 has only two base languages EN & DE and Country= USA. The BP Activation process runtime is 3 Hrs. Please refer Admin Guide.
Adding further language translations later is not supported once the solution is activated, therefore, identify and install all the required languages you may need in future (if possible). You can check the following blog post for information on how to import a large number of languages efficiently.
Since 1709 release, the Solution builder automatically identifies your installed languages and imports only those translations required while importing the installation data.
A new Solution Builder profile has been created with ALL scope items but in case you have finalized scope items you can select only the needed scope items. Depending on how many selected scope items, activation procedure will need less time The status of system before starting this procedure is clearly defined before starting.
Tax calculation for US sales and purchases:
The US solution for 1909 (BP_OP_ENTPR_S4HANA1909_USV6.XML) is delivered with internal tax calculation. It includes sample Jurisdiction codes and sample rates so that you can execute the best practices test scripts out of the box. For productive purposes, you must replace the sample jurisdiction codes and rates with the your own user defined jurisdiction codes and actual tax rates. If you prefer to use an external tax provider, you must configure the required settings
STEP 1: S/4HANA 1909 FPS2 is installed and SPAM checked as per previous blog Part 2 link above.
STEP 2: All Notes are applied after complete installation of S/4HANA 1909 FPS2 is installed as per SAP Note 2896748 – SAP S/4HANA 1909 Feature Package Stack 02: Additional Release Information. Apply all the SAP Notes mentioned in the above Note.
In addition please review SAP Note 2917623 – SAP S/4HANA 1909 – SAP S/4HANA 1909 FP-Stack 02 (05/2020) SAP Best Practices Content activation note and Apply all the SAP Notes mentioned in the above Note.
also review note SAP Note 2776611 – SAP S/4HANA 1909 collective note for content activation
and note SAP Note 2839315 – Implementation of SAP S/4HANA SAP Best Practices 1909 (on premise) – Activation in a merged client
STEP 3: Using SFW5, Enterprise Business Functions are activated as per list in Admin Guide – Required Enterprise Business Functions
LOG_EAM_CI_8 <=required due to dependency
STEP 4: Register client in table /FTI/T_NOCLN000 (for merged client do not register client in this table) so that Client Copy is done with tables defined in whitelist table /FTI/TWHITEL01.
If you want to perform client copy using new tCode SCCLN you must apply SAP Note 2858680 – Client maintenance for on premise. (USED SCCL AS SCCLN HAD ERRORS IN CLIENT COPY)
Then perform the client copy using profile SAP_UCUS, SAP_CUST, SAP_CUSV or SAP_UCSV as per the Admin Guide.
TIP: Use the new tCode SCCLN to perform Client copy which is 10 times faster and you can do it form Client 000 or any other client than the target client and don’t need user SAP*/pass to perform client copy. If you use the new Client copy procedure you have to define logical system for Client 000 like S4HCLNT000 also besides the logical system for client 100. Otherwise you will get error – “Dedicated logical system is not defined”.
Please see the screenshot below:
Copied client to have no currency in tCode SCC4.
After Client copy is completed, for white listed client check using tCode SE16 that the table (1) T001, click on (2) Number of entries to check there are (3) zero entries as below. For Merged Client you should have records in this table.
STEP 5: You may like to add Solution Builder to your Favorites in SAP Menu.as this is the transaction you will use until the activation is complete. Also add transaction SECATT. You can remove them from favorites after activation if not needed.

STEP19: SYSTEM LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT FOR QAS AND PROD:
Recommendation is not to do Content Activation of best practices in QAS and PROD. You have to move the transports as below in graphic.
- SAP Best Practices client is set-up with specific client copy profile
- SAP Best Practices customizing after initial activation
- Manual extension of business configuration using IMG
- Additional client 000 customizing for customer adaptation (Note 2838358)
(not needed for merged client)
In The QAS system, move transports to QAS first n above sequence.
Please note that as of release 1909, configuration guides will be deprecated in the SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA package.
COMPONENT FOR INCIDENTS:
As per the error message in the activation.
Administration Guide for Implementation
This blog has been created with joint team work between Hanuma Rupakula and Mahesh Sardesai.
Delivery Manager (LOB Finance Content)
Product Expert – S/4HANA
Brought to you by the SAP S/4HANA Regional Implementation Group
Thank you Mahesh !
Do you think that one day with a new version of S4/HANA, you'll be able to execute the best practices without "Stop" ?
Yes, That is the plan for the future.
This guide is amazing, it's too useful for us.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Do we need to create the new client before activating the Business functions or after activating the business functions we need to create the client.?
This is not mentioned clearly in the document as well as the guide?
Could you please clarify ?
In the blog the Business Functions are activated in client 000 in STEP 3. The client copy is STEP4.
You can activate business functions before creating client copy.
Hope that clarifies. Let me know if you have any questions.
I couldnt find any information on that: Why not creating the merged client using copy profile SAP_ALL?
Any why can I use any of the profiles from the guide (SAP_UCUS, SAP_CUST, SAP_CUSV, or SAP_UCSV) and do not have to use a specific one?
Regards + Thanks
For White-listed clients these client copy profiles (SAP_UCUS, SAP_CUST, SAP_CUSV, or SAP_UCSV) have to be used. The logic for the copy is available only with these profiles.
For merged client you can use SAP_ALL besides these. If you use any other client copy profile you may run into issues and may not be supported.
Thanks for these well documented procedures which are very useful.
If we have configured the Best practices on a first client 100 in a fresh installed system, and want a second testing client 200, should we perform a SAP_ALL client copy from 100 to 200, or also create an empty client 200 and perform the Best Practices starting at Step 4?
Best regards and Thanks
You can performs a SAP_ALL client copy from 100 to 200 and then you don't have to do Best Practices activation again in client 200.
Hope that clarifies.
Thank you again for the great blog. I’ve followed all the steps and have encountered some errors.
During the activation of some scope items I get the message “SMB99_xxxx_TXT files is not uploaded or its content was deleted by finetuning”.
Is it a known error or have I missed something? Is there a way to upload the missing files?
I would be very grateful for your feedback.
Thank you for the well published blog. As I'm going to perform this for the first time, what could be the approximate timelines to complete the whole activity? It can be High Level approximate hours/days to complete the whole activity.
How much does it normally take to perform all the tasks mentioned above.
Anyone who performed this can suggest or assist in this regard.
Kindly let me know.
Quick response much appreciated. Thanks so much!
It depends on CPU and the amount of memory.
Each of the steps take their own time and total time based on 256GB RAM and HANA certified hardware should be done within 12 hours system working continuously on a constant watch at least every 10 mins and assuming no unexpected issues for client copy, EWM steps, Activation, etc.
Thanks for this guide.
In a DEMO21 system where
are already activated, I successfully activated BP_OP_ENTPR_S4HANA1909_FRV6 which created company code 1210, plant 1210, etc.
Now I would like to reactivate it but with different organizational entity codes, e.g. with company code, plant, etc. “OPT1”.
I couldn't find the way to change such codes. In transaction /SMB/CD_MAINT, I cannot change the company code (grayed out) of the countries that have already been activated (company code 1210 in this example).
How can I do this ? Thanks !
The company codes are standard, changing company code is not allowed and scripts will not work if company codes are changed.
Thanks for your answer.
So this means it's impossible to activate 2 Companies of the same country ?
You cannot activate 2 companies. Use entity copy from IMG after activation is completed.
Please note the blog is limited top standard activation. Please create ticket with component SV-CLD-ACT.
Greetings of the Day!
Thanks for the very helpful blog. I am following your Blogs default throughout my activation and successfully completed most of the activations.
I have a query now about Step 5. Do we need to perform this step as 1909 has preinstalled BP content and I have already downloaded and ready for activation? What is the importance of this TR ERFK136566 to add in the STMS?
It is required to import the transport as it contains the BP content as below for selection. Thi sis the correct one for S/4HANA 1909 FPS2 release and each release has their corresponding transport mentioned in the respective blog.
We are getting consistency errors while activating BC sets for multiple scope items, As part of this we have activated 1809 BC sets later version upgrade was performed 1909 , Now if we activate scope items for 1909 content it is ending with this errors .
Criterion NOT_UPGRADE_RELEVANT has to be defined as prerequisite for criterion SCOPE_EXTENSION_RELEVANT
Criterion NOT_UPGRADE_RELEVANT has to be defined as prerequisite for criterion ADD_NEW_COUNTRY
any resolution for this .
These errors may be related to activation of Business function. Please create OSS ticket under component SV-CLD-ACT so that somebody can check the system.
Thanks , just raised it with SAP now, I have one doubt if we activate a bc set in version 1809 and later upgraded to 1909 and new content of 1909 . if we try to activate the scope new items which are activated in 1809 . will it give this issues. due to version compatibility .
After you upgrade S/4HANA from any release 1709 1809 1909 etc to later release, you have to do a fresh client copy form client 000 and then activate all the BP content fresh.
Activation of remaining scope items on earlier release in a upgraded client is not supported.
We have Fresh Installation of S4Hana 1909 FPS3 for Client Oil-Gas Industry with Best Practice activated but found few issues Appreciate your support and advise in below issue as after activating IS-OIL below Business Functions in 000 ,we have a lot of missing config or data under SPRO downstream part like “TSW – TD – HPM” empty fields or not modifiable check boxes in another client we are using with Best practice too :
We already checked BC Sets and switches from sfw_browser no errors , compared between 00 & our client 140 with no inconsistency

All the TRM pre-configured settings are gone, although it used to exist before best practice installation
I am trying to activate S/4HANA 2021 (FPS00) best practices for Saudi Arabia country, I am getting error like below
"Number Ranges for grouping S100 and account group 0100 are different" for object V_TBD001.
Also I am seeing error like "Number ranges for grouping BP01 and account group CUST are different" in logs.
Could you please help me with resolution.
Please create a ticket so somebody can take a look at the system.
Normally this type of issues arise when you are activaing merged client and some prestems have to be performed. Please follow note below depending on the release
SAP Note 2839315 – Implementation of SAP S/4HANA SAP Best Practices 1909 (on premise) – Activation in a merged client
