As you may know, SAP Application Interface Framework (AIF) is an integral part of SAP S/4HANA for both on-premise and cloud edition. In addition, AIF is shipped as add-on for the business suite. An overview of the different delivery models can be found here.
In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the message monitoring capability is actually based on AIF. See this blog for more information. Here, new features are shipped following the SAP S/4HANA Cloud delivery schedule, i.e., every quarter. With the latest 2005 delivery of SAP S/4HANA Cloud in May, we have shipped the following AIF related features:
- Notification of message alerts through SAP Cloud Platform Workflow services
- Notification of message alerts via SAP Cloud Platform Alert Notification
- Technical error propagation from SAP Cloud Platform Integration into SAP Application Interface Framework
- First delivery of an SAP Fiori UX monitor providing a message monitor overview
Notification of message alerts through SAP Cloud Platform Workflow services
SAP Application Interface Framework can be integrated with SAP Cloud Platform Workflow to trigger a workflow instance in case of an error during message processing. So, you can define a set of actions within your workflow that are carried out once a message goes in an error state. In the workflow instance, you can display the AIF error logs, the message interface keys as well as a link that allows you directly navigating to the message in the message dashboard.
This is the first shipment of integration between AIF and SAP Cloud Platform Workflow. More use cases will be supported with future deliveries, such as cancelling and restarting of AIF messages via a workflow task, approval of message monitoring activities via workflow, etc. See also roadmap below.
Notification of message alerts via SAP Cloud Platform Alert Notification
Another option to react on message errors in AIF is to trigger specific events via the SAP Cloud Platform Alert Notification service. SAP Cloud Platform Alert Notification allows you to subscribe to a particular event whereas various delivery channels are supported such as email, custom webhooks, RESTful service endpoints, etc. There is native support for Slack, Microsoft Teams and other external services.
Read about how to use the SAP Cloud Platform Alert Notification service for triggering alerts from AIF on SAP Help Portal.
Technical error propagation into SAP Application Interface Framework
For an integration scenario that connects SAP Cloud Platform Integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, you can send notifications to AIF within SAP S/4HANA Cloud in case that messages go into error state on the integration platform. The notification is shown in the message monitor for the very same AIF interface the message supposed to be sent. This feature is supported for inbound IDocs and SOAP messages. The outbound case is on the roadmap.
For more details, check out the documentation on SAP Help Portal. A detailed description about how to setup the integration between SAP Cloud Platform Integration and SAP S/4HANA Cloud can be found in this blog.
SAP Fiori UX monitor – message monitor overview
So far, AIF more or less has supported SAP GUI and Web Dynpro user interfaces only. With SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2005, we have shipped a user interface in SAP Fiori UX technology. We have started with the Message Monitoring Overview. In the Fiori launchpad, next to the Message Dashboard, the Assign Recipients to Users and Configure Value Mappings tiles you will now find the Message Monitoring Overview tile.
In the Message Monitoring Overview you see all your interfaces, the number of messages and their status in a tiles layout. The tiles themselves can be arranged based on preferences. If you select a tile, this brings you to the message dashboard. See the scope of the new monitor on SAP Help Portal.
Further user interfaces in SAP Fiori UX technology will be provided with future shipments, such as a message monitor details view, message log details, payload download, search capabilities, improved monitoring efficiency, etc. See also roadmap below.
