Feature Pack 3 of SAP Application Interface Framework add-on 4.0 shipped

SAP Application Interface Framework (AIF) nowadays is an integral part of SAP S/4HANA for both on-premise and cloud edition. In addition, AIF is still shipped as add-on for the business suite. An overview of the different delivery models can be found here.

Development of AIF is mostly done in the SAP S/4HANA code lines. Depending on their demand and technical feasibility, we may downport AIF features to the AIF add-on.

End of April, we have shipped a new feature pack 3 of the AIF add-on 4.0. See SAP note 2608789. You can download the support package from the Software Download Center. Simply search for Application Interface Framework 4.0. The following features have been included in the feature pack:

  • Notification of message alerts through SAP Cloud Platform Workflow services
  • Internal API to read AIF data for consumption in SAP Focused Run for Solution Manager

Notification of message alerts through SAP Cloud Platform Workflow services

SAP Application Interface Framework can be integrated with SAP Cloud Platform Workflow to trigger a workflow instance in case of an error during message processing. So, you can define a set of actions within your workflow that are carried out once a message goes in an error state. In the workflow instance, you can display the AIF error logs, the message interface keys as well as a link that allows you directly navigating to the message in the message dashboard.

For more details, see the documentation on SAP Help Portal.

API for connecting AIF with SAP Focused Run

SAP Focused Run is an Application Lifecycle Management offering for service providers and customers with advanced needs in terms of system and software operation. Beside other use cases, it provides advanced integration monitoring capabilities that allows you to monitor on single message level. You can correlate messages across different systems and applications for an end-to-end monitoring view. For instance, for an integration scenario where you exchange employee data between SAP S/4HANA and SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central via SAP Cloud Platform Integration, you can collect the events from all involved components to display the end-to-end message flow. In order to collect the message information from AIF within SAP S/4HANA, an API has been provided. This very API has now been downported to the AIF add-on. This now allows you to include AIF within the SAP Business Suite in the end-to-end monitoring on SAP Focused Run.

Also check out the Focused Run Expert Portal to learn more about the prerequisites and how to setup the advanced integration monitoring for AIF.
