Every Tab Deserves an Authorization

This blog post is part of a series called “Tip of the Week”.

Its not uncommon that a compromise is needed when granting authorizations. On one hand, you are a big fan of the “need to know basis” rule. On the other hand, you know that if you give this employee an additional authorization, he or she will be able to be more efficient on their daily work. Its’ hard to choose, isn’t it?

Well to simplify authorizations, SAP Business One introduces tab-level authorizations for Business Partner Master Data and Item Master Data:

You can now grant to each user the authorizations only for the tabs he or she needs to access or update as part of their role. If a user is not authorized for a certain tab, this tab will be hidden.

Available in SAP Business One 10.0 PL00 and SAP Business One 10.0, version for SAP HANA PL00.

I hope you found this information helpful and as always, I’m looking forward to your feedback in the comments section below. Greetings Ari,

I am experiencing "weird" limitations with this setup.

When opening the Item Master Data authorizations, the tree opens with the various Tabs.

Next to the Item Master Data, we have the generic authorization.

If this authorization is set to Read Only, all other are effectively Read Only as well, regardless if you put Full Authorization.

How can i give access to data in a specific Tab, without giving access to the - very important - Header Information (Description, UoM, UDFs etc)

      Please advise

      Kind Regards,

      Klitos Demou
