Barn-burner – Lenovo Sets World Record for SAP Business Warehouse Benchmark
Data is growing rapidly. An IDC whitepaper from 2018 reported that worldwide data will grow by 61% from 33 ZB in 2018 to 175 ZB in 2025. In case you were wondering, a zettabyte includes a lot of zero’s at an impressive 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes. This explosion of data shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as data is automatically generated from basically everywhere 24/7/365 by both consumers and enterprises (think GPS in cars, fitness trackers, “Hey Alexa” requests, etc).
SAP has a long history in data warehousing and analytics to help transform data into actionable information. As the demands on these systems grow, we’re happy to have deep partnerships at the hardware level to help deliver the fastest, most differentiated systems to our customers.
We’ve partnered with Lenovo and Intel to offer even larger single nodes to our SAP HANA customers—reducing the overheard of administering scale out landscapes and the stress of running out of capacity.
The Lenovo ThinkSystem SR950 just achieved a World Record Result for SAP Business Warehouse Edition for SAP HANA Benchmark.
The ThinkSystem SR950 server achieved exceptional performance results at all three phases of the benchmark:
- 45,151 (Runtime of last Data Set in seconds) at the data load phase testing data latency and load performance
- 2,384 (Query Executions per Hour) at the query throughput phase testing query throughput with moderate complex queries
- 231 (Total Runtime in seconds) at the query runtime phase testing the performance of running very complex queries
These amazing results are due to the powerful 4U design that combines innovations from all three companies.
The SAP BW for HANA system on Lenovo ThinkSystem SR950 was running on Intel Optane persistent memory, an innovative new memory tier designed to help businesses with data-intensive workloads get faster insights. Delivered with second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable Family processors, Intel Optane persistent memory technology provides a distinct combination of high-capacity, high-speed, persistency, and lower costs.
SAP HANA brings faster, multi-model data processing and SAP BW whether from SAP application or third-party solutions. Having it run on Lenovo ThinkSystem SR950 with Intel Optane persistent memory helps you ensure the latest innovations across your technology stack.
