SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain – 2005

As each and every quarter we provide also for 2005 a new version of the SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain.
Besides the upgrade and test of the content and the technical assets based on the newest release, we enhance our scope with new topics and features. In this release you can find important enhancements regarding integration both for time-series-based planning and order-based planning.

Here the highlights for the 2005 version:

Enhancements and changes for Sample Model SAPIBP1

In 2002, we added an optional feature to the SAPIBP1 sample planning area that allows you to copy sample analytics and alerts. This feature supports an additional content type. These are the web-based planning views for sales managers and customers that are used in Best Practices scope items. This means you no longer need to manually configure these views, which reduces your manual effort to set up your Best Practices processes.

Enhanced scope item for time-series-based inbound integration with SAP S/4HANA

We enhanced the integration scope item for time-series-based inbound integration with SAP S/4HANA with Actuals Quantity. With that the following master data and key figures are covered:

New scope item for Integration of planned independent requirements to SAP S/4HANA

Integration is a very important topic in every implementation project – and I’m happy that we could now offer also new content for the integration of planned independent requirements from SAP IBP to SAP S/4HANA.

From a technical point of view it shows an example using RFC enabled function modules.
From a business point of view, SAP IBP is used as the demand planning engine (in contrast to the use case, that SAP IBP is used for the overall supply chain planning) to generate planned independent requirements (PIR). These PIRs are then transferred back to SAP S/4HANA to be used as the input to the material requirements planning (MRP) process.
We see three different process variants:

  • The default variant we describe in this scope item uses PIR’s as output of SOP demand review: In the pre-delivered IBP_to_ERP_PIR_via_RFC CPI-DS template, the CONSENSUSDEMANDQTY (Consensus Demand Plan Qty) key figure of sample planning area SAPIBP1 is by default mapped to planned independent requirements (PIRs) in SAP S/4 HANA. In SAP Best Practices for SAP IBP, this key figure is the output of scope item IBP for sales and operations – demand review (2BQ). At the end of the process, the CONSENSUSDEMANDQTY (Consensus Demand Plan Qty) key figure is populated with data that can be integrated to SAP S/4HANA on premise.

If you want to use another key figure as the source, you can adjust the default mapping in the pre-delivered CPI-DS template IBP_to_ERP_PIR_via_RFC. Possible alternatives are:

  • PIRs as output of demand planning: Another common use case is to carry out the planning process as described in scope item IBP for demand – demand planning (11V). In this case, you can use either the DEMANDPLANNINGQTY (Demand Planning Qty) key figure or the COMBINEDFINALDEMAND (Combined Final Demand) key figure of sample planning area SAPIBP1 as the source. This requires that you adjust the source key figure in your CPI-DS task.
  • The last variant is a customer-specific key figure as source for PIRs: You create a new dedicated key figure in your planning area for the PIR integration. This integration key figure is then used in the CPI-DS task. On the SAP IBP side, you need to create a copy operator profile to retrieve the value for this integration key figure. This process variant gives you great flexibility on the IBP side, as for example, the source key figure and the aggregate level are defined in the copy operator profile, while keeping the CPI-DS task stable at the same time.

Enhanced scope item for order-based planning inbound integration with SAP S/4HANA

The IBP – order-based planning inbound integration with SAP S/4HANA scope item has been enhanced with planning calendars. The scope item describes how to check the imported production, shipping/receiving and transportation calendar after the inbound integration from SAP S/4HANA.

Enhanced scope items for demand-driven replenishment

The scope items available for “IBP for demand-driven replenishment” have been enhanced with new dashboards and charts for the supply chain analyst, supply chain planner, and supply chain director business roles to provide better visibility of the planning process.

Enhanced scope item for deployment planning

The scope item “IBP for response and supply – deployment planning” has been enhanced with a new feature supporting the manual adjustment of the “Maximum Stock Transfer Receipts” as well as “Minimum Stock Transfer Receipts” key figure. This is important if you want e.g. define an upper limit that cannot be exceeded by planning.

  • Dear Ina,

    thanks for the info.

What is the trigger to get the new CPI-DS template IBP_to_ERP_PIR_via_RFC available in an existing CPI-DS?

We have upgraded the IBP Addon and the IBP Agent and unfortunately can not find the new template.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Kind regards

    Sebastian

  • Sebastian,

DS agent upgrade is not required for the IBP_to_ERP_PIR_via_RFC template to become available. You may just have to wait for the server upgrade that delivers the template.

Find the server version under Administrator tab:

  • Dear Ina, it’s a very interesting post.

We are using IBP_to_ERP_PIR_via_RFC successfully with Demmand Planning Quantity. However, we have a doubt, version number is a global constant in the template. Is it possible to populate this version number dynamically from IBP?

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Luis
