Introduction:
As the latest release of FPS (Feature Pack Stack) is available, many of us are preparing for an upgrade of our SAP S/4HANA system. This document is an update from our previous RIG FPS upgrade guide and it includes steps for preparing and executing an FPS upgrade of a SAP S/4HANA 1809 On Premise system.
All of the screenshots of the SUM steps are from our test instance for reference, however, please review all SUM tool guide and OSS Notes prior to starting as my environment might be different than yours, such as SAP HANA version and OS level patch.
Please refer to note 1803986 – Rules to use SUM or SPAM/SAINT to apply SPs for ABAP stacks for additional approach of the upgrade by using transaction SPAM. Our test instance has the SAP Fiori FES which I also combined with this upgrade. The guide also included some Post Upgrade Activities from our RIG colleagues to follow as they are important.
Overall the upgrade activities completed without any major issues. It is a small instance, so I didn’t have to focus on downtime optimization but it did take up most of the weekend during downtime.
I will update this blog post for SAP S/4HANA1909 upgrade and FPS02 as we are getting ready for the next release.
