With the unprecedented events surrounding COVID-19, we also have a unique opportunity to grasp benefits in using SAP in innovative ways.  For those businesses who are Asset Intensive, then Maintenance planning in this COVID-19 environment has become a tricky proposition!   This is particularly the case if equipment usage rates are more variable compared to normal.

We see it often where businesses are totally unaware of when SAP Work Orders are scheduled on the wrong dates…leading to over-servicing (wasted money and effort) or under-servicing (increasing the risk of breakdown and significant production losses). Even worse, we see customers reverting to calendar-based plans instead of using counter based.

Thanks to the support of the SAP Community, the PM Eleven team is offering FREE installations of two of our Solutions to help you improve your maintenance using SAP.

ANNUAL ESTIMATES

Our first application selected for this process is called the “Annual Estimates Review”.

It guarantees that the annual estimates (used for Maintenance Plans) are accurate using historical data as a reference for the future, allowing it to increase the reliability of assets, quality standards and reduce costs.

It is a tool that works within SAP, allowing planners to always compare the history of use of assets against the annual estimate that is in the system. If they deem appropriate, they can update the annual estimates for each device on a single screen.

What benefits do you get? 

The solution will help to continuously improve and optimize the estimates, managing the maintenance of the assets when really required, not before or after. This will allow you to increase the reliability of your assets and save direct and indirect costs related to asset maintenance.

How does it work?

In SAP, maintenance plans are defined by the annual estimates defined therein. However, for various reasons, they are not always the right ones. An inaccurate annual estimate can lead to maintenance plans calling work orders at the wrong time. That is, the system can call work orders before or after the optimal date, as it was defined when it was estimated.

MAINTENANCE PLAN RECALCULATION (CALLS REPORT)

Our second application selected for this process it is call “Maintenance Plan Recalculation (Calls Report)”.  This solution can demonstrate the REAL savings opportunities missed!

Maintenance Plan Recalculation is a forward-looking solution which provides key recommendations to highlight that the Work Order is not actually on the date that the work is due.  Additionally, it can also look at completed work and highlight where Work Orders had been executed on dates where the work wasn’t due or overdue.

A second round of savings potential then exists by highlighting when services were done at an extended interval!  Perhaps this interval can be adopted as the service interval. When it comes to over servicing and under servicing, two wrongs don’t make a right.

What benefits do you get? 

Not only will their work orders be performed closer to when they are actually due, but their out-of-sequence maintenance calls will be highlighted and resolved.  In all cases, when the recommendations are acted upon, we store the savings away in a dedicated table in SAP to provide them with an in-built business case.

How does it work?

The Maintenance Plan Recalculation solution interrogates and analyses Due Dates for PMs which have already been created as Work Orders by Maintenance Plans. It also has the ability to simulate the Due Dates using definable parameters to highlight to planners and schedulers how PM schedules can be optimised.
