The Introduction in the 6 Digital Tech Trends. Read the Blog Series Introduction

User Experience - the end product of our digitization that you can see and touch. For centuries we have been using the possibility to use things to our advantage and get a user experience that we can judge. No matter if it is a physical or virtual product. The blog describes the evolution from user experience to multi-experience to ambient experience and its technological means and changes. come along on the journey.

The user experience (UX) is about meeting users' needs most effectively and enjoyably. The UX strategy is based on providing users with efficient and easy-to-use software, along with optimal user experience. The user's story plays an important role.

Therefore, the next step is to combine user experience (UX) with multi-experience. This means that user inputs and representations are enhanced by new technologies (sensors, glasses, camera, etc.).

Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in the multiexperience ambient

Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies will make it possible to provide standard applications for enterprise processes with the integration in operating systems and the WebXR standard. In combination with sensors, things, wearables, machine learning and language, input aids, presentation, and imagination will be virtually extended.

For example, SAP UI5 with WebXR and SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS offer integration with SAP Core data for augmented reality applications.

Voice and sensory inputs as a new user interface will be increasingly integrated into business applications and web applications. With the support of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), voice input and its services will become more powerful.

Integration of AI and ML

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used in more than 50% of all interactions via user interfaces, whether in the form of machine vision, speech recognition, natural language processing, augmented reality or virtual reality.

In this way, use cases can be quickly realized that expand the imagination for service technicians (assembly plans, troubleshooting, and construction plans), logistics specialists (warehouse management and picking), marketing and customers (product animations and shopping), construction planners (virtual rooms and planning), manufacturing (assembly support, monitoring, and training) and other industries such as health, insurance, etc. The AI speech input and object recognition support the production of this case and the operation.

How chatbot simplify the interaction between human and computers

There are several applications in which a simple request or search for structured or unstructured information with or without media breaks can be made. The chatbot with AI (robot) is supposed to simplify the interaction between humans and computers, replace, automate and accelerate various requests.

For example:

  • Information about the delivery progress of my order

  • Information on products and services

  • Time recording and reportable tasks

  • Instructions and process steps up to direct human/robot interface

More examples: Customer portals, support portals, knowledge portals (WIKI), process guided user interactions, administration applications, websites, HR task, etc.

The user input becomes easier and faster. This also means that data processing and creation will increase even more. The hurdles of writing and reading will be overcome with voice input.

Further information on business partners, companies, persons, etc. is generated and can be consumed.

In the SAP applications (S/4HANA, C/4HANA, Qualtrix, etc.) these user interfaces will be integrated as standard in future releases (e.g. SAP CoPilot).5

The Ambient User Experience includes step number three, the ability for these devices and sensors to collect contextual data and thus constantly increase intelligence. They support the user intelligently and accompany him consciously and unconsciously.

How do you best approach Ambient Experience

The Design Thinking method, specific to topics such as creating personas, sences, comics, prototyping & wireframes, user-centered design, with usability testing will bring you the understanding of your users' needs and the corresponding guaranteed success.

How do you implement multi-experience / user experience with SAP tools, which products / technologies support you in this?

CoPilot

Take a UX technology and a suitable process, make your own experience in a pilot project in your company. Don't forget, start small and think big and don't invest more than 5 days in the pilot. With food comes hunger and the eye eats with it!

In my next blog post, you will learn about Hyperautomation and how this trend is impacting your business. This combination of several tools such as Robot Supported Process Automation (RPA), Intelligent Business Management Software (iBPMS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Will change your daly work in the business and give you the focus back on your impoortent work.
