Announcing SAP Online Track in May 2020
Dear Community,
[Update – 27.02.2020] The community have spoken on below question. We are changing our name we hope you like our rebranding!
[Update] Please read our question asking for help to find a new name. We want to try and find a more suitable name for our event.
I am proud to announce that we will host the first ONLINE-Only SAP Knowledge sharing event. I’m working with some amazing individuals that more than anything deserves a big mention in all of this:
Let me start by describing what this event will be like.
Description
It will be an online-only event spanning 24 hours. The intent is that we can then cover all time zones. We are relying on the community to host sessions that we will stream online. The plan is to create online social activities as well throughout the 24 hours to keep the engagement going. We will host the sessions and have a chat community on the side for people to network.
Why are we doing this
In short, we felt the time was right to try it out. The SAP Inside Track movement is really taken off and this is an attempt to create a global event to have heaps of content made available for the community.
Also, we are making this a fundraising event, where we are raising money for GirlsWhoCode.
So while the event will be free for everyone to join, please consider donating to this great cause.
This is really something that has a big personal interest for me to raise awareness of the huge gender gap in technology. Especially in SAP, you can listen to the SAP Coffee Corner podcast with Anne Kathrine Petterøe if you want to learn more.
When is this taking place
The event will start on the 30th of May 2020 at 12 noon CET. Then the aim is to keep the event going for 24 hours until noon on the 31st of May. We hope we will get enough sessions to fill all the 24 hours and hopefully in multiple tracks, so there is something for everyone.H
How can I present
You might think that you need a semi professional setup to do a session. Trust me you really don’t. A computer, headset and an internet connection is enough. You can also chose whether or not you want to use Webcam. This is entirely up to you. No pressure from our side. We really just appreciate your contribution.
Please submit your proposal here before the 1st of may. That gives us a chance to work out a calendar.
If you want to help out on the day. Please let fill out this form
This is still early stages, so we are working hard on getting all the bits and pieces together. So please stay tuned.
Make sure to follow us on twitter
Also please subscribe to the YouTube channel, where all the content will be streamed. The subscription will help us get an easier URL.
waaah, how cool is that?!
count me in.
submitting proposal now 🙂
Wow, its tremendously cool, with people from whole over the world
Hi Jakob,
a great idea and I was just on the way to send a session proposal when I saw that it is from Saturday noon to Sunday noon.
This is the worst time I could think of. I really like my job and what I'm doing but I also like my private social connections which I cultivate preferable at weekends and most preferably from Saturday noon to Sunday evening.
Have to think about participating.
Best regards
Helmut
I completely understand, we followed the lead on most insidetracks that are held on a Saturday. Since it's running 24 hours we are hoping people can fit in some live sessions. Obviously we don't expect people to attend 24 hours. It needs to fit in the calendar. My own included, I got family obligations as well, hence why we are asking for volunteers as well, it's going to be a big thing to pull off.
I sincerely hope you will be able to fit in a presentation and in your schedule. It would be greatly appreciated.
Awesome initiative folks! Can't wait 🙂
Neat idea, Jakob & Co!
Do you happen to have some rough ideas which topics you'd like to see covered during the 24h? Just to give an example: would something along the lines of our "long long winding road" to get central ATC-checks up and running be of interest or would this be too basic or not topical enough for a SIT?
Also, what would be the technical requirements for those presenting virtually? The SIT being planned on a weekend for example might limit access to properly equipped meeting rooms in office locations.
As an aside: what you plan looks similar to what groups like The Climate Reality Project have been doing with their "24 hours of reality" events once per year (on a very large scale I might add ?).
Cheers and good luck with the preparations!
Bärbel
Hi bärbel,
Thanks for commenting. We are looking for all the content we can get. So please submit. Similar to a normal inside track this is a community event. However we just have no space constraints ?
We are still working on the streaming and will update more on that once we've done our testing. But as long as you have a computer to present on and a headset, you should be fine.
We don't expect speakers to go and buy new equipment to host a session at all. We will support to get the tech sorted out. We have Ronnie André Bjørvik Sletta on the case and he is already having long waken hours thinking about this ?
Jakob Marius Kjær
Hi Jakob,
I just filled in the form to submit my suggestion.
Cheers
Bärbel
Hi Bärbel
I would certainly welcome a deep dive into the Central ATC. Happy to help out if required as well. We have been on our journey for a couple of years now.
Cheers
Ian
Ian Stubbings
Hi Ian,
thanks for the offer to help!
However, not sure I'd classify the presentation I have in mind as a deep dive! It's more like a cruise along the 2-year trip we found ourselves on to a) get a central ATC-system and b) to get it up and running.
Cheers
Bärbel
Great initiative and this will further propel the #SAPInsideTrack enthusiasm across the globe so will start thinking of some ideas and submit them! Great to combine learnings with donating as well to good causes.
Well done on the crew getting this together, some seriously great SAP Community contributors in there and I am sure Ronnie André Bjørvik Sletta will nail the streaming!
cheers
Phil
Thank you Phil Cooley we hope to see a submission from you as well.
Whoo Hoo!
A 24 hour SIT!
I will think of something to present. This is wonderful news. I did six presentations at various SIT events last year and felt a bit down that I would not be able to do as many this year.
It being the weekend does not bother me. All SIT events I have been to in Europe have been on a Saturday.
Cheersy Cheers
Paul
Thank you Paul Hardy We would really appreciate that!
I finally got round to submitting a proposal.
It made my spin spin working out what the time difference between UTC (what I call Greenwich Mean Time) and Sydney time will be on the 30th of May, as both of us having daylight changing between now and then, in opposite directions.
Whilst filling in the form I noticed a speaker had the choice of saying what slot they would like - best choice, second best, third best.
Presumably you have sort some sort of algorithim to determine which combination fills up the most slots whilst giving the maximum number of first choices.
Do you use a computer program to do this, and if so, is it in ABAP?
Cheersy Cheers
Paul
Haha, for now it's going to be a manual exercise. Currently we have about 30 sessions, so the math is not that hard. But we welcome you to write a program that can do the algorithm for us. Maybe a topic for your session 😛
I have written a program and posted it on GitHub.

It is probably far too late but I like doing this sort of thing just for the sake of it.

Awesome initiative folks! Keep up the good work.
a great idea..
24 hrs!!! Cool. I however, will not be there the entire time. Just as much as I can, and be ready for my job on Monday.
What great fun!
Hi Michelle Crapo ,
Awesome! looking forward to having you there, I also saw you submitted a few sessions. Thanks for that!
We don't expect people to stay a full 24 hours. This is to be able to accommodate for every time zone so all can feel welcome.
Yes, but it sure would be fun to stay 24 hours! 🙂 I can't wait to be there. Just an FYI my time is open so if you need to slot me anywhere it will work. Really there wasn't an option for that on the form I filled out.
Hi,
This is really efficient way, when there is a crisis scenario regarding Corona-Virus COVID-19 situation world-wide
Thanks,
Kaushik
Wow, a great idea!
I will certainly join.
Maybe more SITs will follow, with all the meetings restrictions in place.
Cheers
Pawel
This was announced before the Coronavirus restrictions really got going, but as it turns out it could not be more appropriate. I imagine that for quite some times online events are the only types of events we are going to have.
This is a great initiative and I already sent a session proposal!
Excellent idea!
Hello,
Is it still possible to submit a proposal ?
Regards
Senthil
Please join our discord server and ask the question there. We are working hard on the schedule now.
Thanks very much for the direction. I have got the required input and working on it.
Great work! I have added another topic "Power your household on demand with IoT, Blockchain, Fiori and S/4HANA!" Hopefully it can still be added :). Kind regards, Bart

Hello,
when will it be possible to register for the SAP Online Track? When the schedule is ready?
Thanks,
Julia
Hi Jakob,
It was a great success, no two words about it.
Live streaming is the way to go for SITs if not for other SAP events.
Thanks to you and the team for pulling it off.
Cheers, greg
