SAP and the Industrial Internet of Things – Latest Update now on openSAP

A new openSAP course “The Internet of Things with SAP” is out! Enroll here: https://open.sap.com/course/iot4

Industry 4.0, or the Industrial Internet of Things, is about industrial transformation using new digital technology that makes it possible to gather and analyze data across machines and business systems, enabling faster, more flexible, and more efficient processes to produce higher quality, individualized goods at lower cost.

The digitalization of products, processes, and services is a way to react to the increased customer demand but poses a number of challenges in itself. Manufacturing companies are challenged to increase productivity while producing individualized products with high quality in an environment of constantly changing and varying customer demand.

5G cellular networks, IoT and edge computing are key technology enablers for Industry 4.0. The results of a 2019 McKinsey study on capturing value with IoT suggest that enterprise IoT is poised for strong growth because of its ability to improve the customer experience, increase productivity, and enable the development of innovative products and services. In fact, Industry 4.0 is estimated to have value creation potential for manufacturers and suppliers of $3.7 trillion in 2025.

SAP believes that Industry 4.0 is driven by four themes providing distinct value to the business. Intelligent products are built and configured to meet exactly what customers need. Intelligent assets are linked to all processes and are dynamically maintained. Intelligent factories use data and intelligence to run as autonomously as possible and deliver customized products at scale. Empowered people are equipped with all the tools and information they need to do their best work.

SAP has the broad solution portfolio to unlock the value of Industry 4.0, combining the power of intelligent manufacturing in factories and plants with end-to-end business process execution across the supply chain.

SAP’s solutions for IoT in the cloud and at the edge, SAP Leonardo IoT and SAP Edge Service, are key constituents of the enabling foundation for SAP applications supporting Industry 4.0. They enable customers to embed IoT directly into line-of-business solutions, extend existing business applications with IoT technology, and open up development of new IoT-enabled business models.

The new openSAP course “The Internet of Things with SAP” walks you through the most up-to-date information on IoT at SAP. It starts by learning about the fundamentals of IoT and the importance of IoT to the intelligent enterprise. It then dives into the latest innovations of SAP IoT in the cloud and at the edge. In the 2nd half of the course participants will learn how to best use sensor or IoT data, how to incorporate IoT data into SAP business processes, and what the future holds IoT and business solutions. More information on the course content and how to enroll can be found here.

Happy Learning!
