On February 11, Gartner released the 2020 Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms[1]. For the second year the SAP submission was solely based on SAP Analytics Cloud and its companion products, SAP Digital Boardroom and SAP Analytics Hub.

I’m very pleased to share that the report positioned SAP as a Magic Quadrant Visionary in this market based on its completeness of vision (horizontal axis) and ability to execute (vertical axis).

Integrated BI, planning and predictive functions

SAP Analytics Cloud is an integrated analytics solution that includes BI, planning, and augmented analytics (including predictive analytics). It allows business users to analyze both the past and present while planning for the future in one experience, versus needing to stitch together separate apps for planning and analytics.

Strong functionality for augmented analytics

SAP understood the augmented analytics shift happening in the analytics and BI market very early and we anticipated this next big wave of analytics as soon as 2013 with the acquisition of KXEN, the leading provider of machine learning technology for line-of-business users and business analysts at that time. SAP vision for augmented analytics – supported by this early acquisition – focuses on SAP Analytics Cloud to offer the best combination of human creativity that is required to design and produce impactful analytics content, and machine intelligence that helps to quickly uncover hidden insights, eliminate bias and anticipate the future.

Breadth of capability, including SAP Digital Boardroom and prebuilt business content

Built on SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Digital Boardroom brings the boardroom and meetings of all types to life across people, places, and devices into a real-time enterprise experience. It enables to interact with a company’s most important business metrics to monitor, simulate, and drive change. With fully automated BI capabilities that dramatically improve the quality and speed of reporting as well as collaboration in real time, managers can instantly drill into key areas of the business including revenues, pipeline, margin, attrition rate of employees, and model business drivers on the fly to anticipate the future. SAP Digital Boardroom provides a harmonized view of company operations across all lines of business on multiple devices to eliminate slide- and spreadsheet-driven meetings, back-office people running around collecting reports, and the dreaded phrase, “I’ll get back to you.”

SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Digital Boardroom customers can accelerate time-to-value with over 100 packages of industry and line-of-business best practice content that is available from SAP and its partners for more than 20 applications, including SAP S/4HANA, SAP C/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba. These packages are already available free of charge as of Q1 2020 and new packages are delivered on a quarterly basis.

Wider portfolio that includes SAP Data Warehouse Cloud

In 2019 SAP launched SAP HANA Cloud Services as a complete, unified solution across all data and analytics, including a full spectrum of data management capabilities with data warehousing, data integration, data quality, data preparation, data governance, and master data management – all things that ensure the success of analytics deployments. SAP HANA Cloud Services includes SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and SAP HANA Cloud.

Customer momentum

SAP Analytics Cloud is well positioned for where the market is headed with cloud analytics. SAP’s analytics cloud-first product strategy focuses on delivering fast innovations in the cloud while continuing to support on-premise analytics and enabling customers to move to the cloud at their own pace. Improvements coming to SAP BusinessObjects BI customers with the new version (BI 4.3) that launched in beta in December 2019 continue protecting and extending current investments with new innovations in the cloud and in a hybrid environment.

The number of large, international customers in the 10,000+ user range is growing year after year thanks to SAP’s continued focus on fostering adoption and large deployments of SAP Analytics Cloud. In addition to on-going product deliveries aimed at improving performance and scalability, SAP continues to invest in a dedicated customer success team which is standing by to support customers in their adoption and use of the product. Customers can meet the team and get started with a welcome guide.

Analytics and BI Bake-Off

While SAP is a named as a Visionary in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Analytics and BI Platforms, SAP is also one of the 4 vendors in the Analytics and BI Bake-Off scripted demo competition that will take place during the Gartner Data and Analytics Summit in Grapevine, Texas, on March 22.
