Blog It Forward – Dries Van Vaerenbergh

Hi everyone,

I’m happy to share with you all that my good friend and old colleague Wouter Lemaire has “Blog It Forward” to me in his lovely #BIF Blog:

https://blogs.sap.com/2020/01/22/blog-it-forward-wouter-lemaire-2/

About me

My name is Dries Van Vaerenbergh (at least it was last time I checked my ID ?).

Born the 8th of May in Belgium and still living there! ??

Always been a big soccer fan and in particular a fan of Real Madrid C.F. ⚽

Some hobbies are:

  • Watching series ?️
  • Play some video games ?
  • Having a drink at the pub with friends ?

When you’re on vacation with friends, the last one will help you to pass time when your flight is canceled. ?

I’ve been raised by two awesome parents (thanks mom and dad!) and I’m the proud big brother of a younger one. ?‍?‍?‍?

I’m the lucky and happy boyfriend of a girlfriend from Italy, for two years now. ?? ❤️

Got to know her in Greece and we both held on during a long distance relationship. ??

A lot of flights have been passed… ✈️

Which were totally worth it! She always helped and supported me in everything.

Also during the last year of university, that brings me to the point of graduating.

I Studied Applied Informatics and graduated in June 2018. ?

Passed my internship at the company Flexso Digital.

Where I immediately started as an SAP consultant who has a lot of amazing colleagues. ?

Passed my first SAP TechEd (2019 Barcelona) event together with them, which was an amazing experience. Thanks guys!

Seeing quite a lot of flags right? I love to travel the world!

I hear you thinking… Favorite country? Ireland for sure! ?? ☘️

I could not wait to bring my girlfriend there!

Fun fact about myself

What does it mean being a foodie?

I had no idea but I liked the word, so I did some googling.

According to Wikipedia a foodie is:

A foodie is a person who has an ardent or refined interest in food and who eats food not only out of hunger but due to their interest or hobby.

Let’s make it:

A foodie is a person who has an interest in food every second of the day and who eats food only out of hunger and interest and hobby.

Then I am a foodie!

Maybe one last fun fact?

Living 10 minutes away from Wouter Lemaire is the coolest thing ever! When not working on some cool SAP stuff it is time to hang out!

A cool picture of myself in my hometown

When not working or chilling at Wouter his place you can find me outside to relax and enjoy the beautiful country side in my hometown.

Questions from Wouter Lemaire

1. What is your favorite movie and why?

I’m not the biggest movie fan you will find here on the Community, but I do like watching series.

Here you can find my current Netflix list:

I know you are a fan of “The Flash”. Seeing something here you like? I’m curious!

2. As you are both living in Belgium, what do you like the most about our country?

Since I’m a foodie from today on, I can tell that I love the French Fries and Chocolate here in Belgium. Obviously all the food comes with a taste of thirst. Nothing better then a Belgium beer to quench the thirst.

Answer 3 – 4 optional questions

1. How do you think the way you were raised affects your Career?

I was raised in a way that taught me to never give up. I can tell I benefit from it a lot.

Some development days can torture us all sometimes, right? But failing doesn’t mean you can’t do it or that you are not good enough. It is just the sign that you are just not there YET.

Cause you can do it!

2. What do you enjoy most in your work and why?

The thing I love the most when I’m working is not “my own result”. I always try to be proud of something I develop, which is why I give myself a 100% every time. Even though I’m a young SAP consultant, the thing I enjoy the most during work is helping and teaching my friends/colleagues.

When you see them enjoying the work and being proud of what they made is the best part!

3. Name the person who affected you most in your career/ way of thinking and why?

The question I just answered above is also applicable on you Wouter Lemaire I think.

Correct me if I’m wrong? You played a huge part in helping me to reach where I stand today.

As a friend, internship mentor and colleague I enjoyed and had the pleasure to learn from you every single day. You taught me the SAP Cloud Platform, SAPUI5, SAP Leonardo IoT and the SAP Community.

You were and are a true example for me and a lot of people! Thanks again for everything!

4. What do you most enjoy about the SAP Community?

The most awesome thing about the SAP Community and what I enjoy the most, is the way people communicate with each other. It always happens in a friendly and motivated way.

Everyone learns from each other in a beautiful environment!

I “Blog It Forward”

I blog it forward to Mahesh Kumar Palavalli and Vadim Klimov with the following questions:

  1. What is your most favorite SAP Cloud Platform Service?
  2. Which country would you love to visit?

Great BIF Dries Van Vaerenbergh !!!!   I also watch series a lot but mostly on the anime side(Japanese), I would recommend you also to watch, only if you don’t hate them ? ?   ?

From your Netflix list, I binge watched the Dracula recently, it is a good one, love to see if it get’s season 2.

Those pics from the country side are really beautiful and BTW I tried searching you there in those pics for sometime ? ? because of your title “A cool picture of myself in my hometown” ? ?  Don’t blame me, I thought it is some kind of artistic image or something, where I have to find you ?

Thank you a lot Mahesh Kumar Palavalli !

I only know the Inuyasha series and to be honest I don't really know if it is Japanese.

      But actually I liked it!

Alright, I didn't start it yet but know I will definitely watch it!

No blaming from my side but pure fun! Awesome!

Really looking forward to your #BIF! ?

😀 I am a big fan of Inuyasha series, I used to watch it when I was a kid.

It is Japanese only and  has both English subs and dubs, probably you've watched the dubs 🙂 .  believe me there are some animes that are like 10 times better than it 🙂 🙂 Let me know for recommendations when you start in future!

Sure, will create the post soon 🙂

Hello Dries, and welcome to the #blogitforward family!

I'm so happy that you had a great experience at SAPTechEd - but not at all surprised.  It really great to be able to meet up with people in real life.   And lucky you, to be able to hang out with Wouter Lemaire too.

As Mahesh Kumar Palavalli noted, you don't seem to be *in* those two beautiful pictures of your hometown.  Perhaps that was an EBKAC?

I'll give you a picture of my view out my front door in exchange for one with you IN IT.

      Cheers,

      Sue

I totally admit that it was definitely a EBKAC. Let me adjust and provide you one right away! ?

I do have to say, you have a lovely view too out there!

(Tried to find one to stay in the countryside atmosphere)

      Kind regards,

      Dries

Nice pic!!  I was hoping it was not simply an EBKAC but a cryptic image for the readers to do some detective work 😛 😀 😀
