Here is a compilation of the most frequently asked questions around the Localization Toolkit for SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Let us look through the questions outlined below which span across a wide range of topics related to the localization toolkit.

What is ‘Localization’ in SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

Localization plays a pivotal role in supporting your cloud journey. A dedicated team of localization experts deployed across the globe help deliver the legal changes for SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Localization supports customer business compliance and caters to adjusting the product's functional properties, characteristics and content to accommodate the language and legal differences.

The localizations are segregated in a few different approaches as outlined below:

What local versions are available in SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

There are 42 local versions currently delivered by SAP with the 1911 release. You can find the detailed roadmap here. These local versions are a combination of configuration, country/region-specific functionality and language. You can glance through the region-specific functionality here.

What is SAP S/4HANA Cloud, starter packs for select countries?

The SAP S/4HANA Cloud starter packs for select countries is a planned innovation which is to be made available for 10 countries (Bahamas, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Cyprus, Guernsey, Jersey, Botswana and Qatar) with the 2002 release. This will be included with your S/4HANA Cloud subscription with no additional costs and covers very basic & fixed scope spanning across sales, procurement, finance and professional services for enterprises.

The starter packs will not comprise of any legal requirements. Localization Toolkit for SAP S/4HANA Cloud can be explored for supported scenarios (e.g. compliance reporting, payment formats, forms etc.). You can also propose new scenarios to be added to the toolkit documentation.

Please refer to the innovation discovery for more details on the scope covered in the SAP S/4HANA starter packs for select countries.

What is Localization Toolkit for SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

The toolkit provides guidance on how to cover the requirements on top of the available localization features for the current local versions. It is a combination of in-built localization features such as Advanced Compliance Reporting, Payment Medium Workbench and other generic extensibility features such as fields, logic, UI and CDS Views.

The how-to documents imbibe all the above listed features to provide you guidance in realizing a business need on your own. It aims to reduce your implementation time by providing several useful links and code snippets in one place.

The future direction is to have a *tool that would enable creation of new local versions. Please note that this tool is currently in planning and we would keep you informed of the latest developments there on a regular basis.

You can learn more about the toolkit in this blog.

Who can use the toolkit?

The toolkit is open to all and can be used by the implementing partner or the customer.

Do I have to pay for the Localization Toolkit for SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

No, the toolkit is not priced. Certain features are delivered as extensions e.g. Advanced Compliance Reporting and might need additional licensing or may be priced based on the usage.

How can I use the toolkit today?

The toolkit provides guidance on how to cover the requirements on top of the localization features for an available local version. The aggregation of how-to guides and useful links are already available for you on the community page under the ‘Expert content’. We already have implementation partners using these guides to enhance their localizations.

Let us take an instance where a customer would like to have a new VAT report which is not a part of the generic VAT report output. The customer with the support of a consultant or a partner can address this need by using the how-to guide that explains how to create a new VAT report.

What are the typical areas one could extend?

The toolkit consists of end-to-end scenarios that span across key areas such as tax management, reporting, payments and forms, to name a few. We leverage the extensibility features such as in-app extensibility and side-by-side extensibility and describe how to apply them in our how-to guides.

How is the how-to guide structured?

The how-to guide is in the form of blogs that describe a sample business scenario and dive further into the details such as the prerequisites, authorizations required and implementation steps with code snippets for ease of use.

You can post your questions or comment right beneath the individual blogs for addressing any points around the topic adressed in the blog.

Can I request to add a new requirement to your how-to guides?

Absolutely. The toolkit aims to bridge the gap wherever your business needs a very specific localization feature. It is vital that we receive regular feedback from you on where you see a need. We would then analyze the request for feasibility and work towards including that in our list of documentation wherever possible. You can directly channel your requests via the Q&A discussion forum on the SAP community page of the toolkit here.

Can I reuse the localization artifacts I have built?

In terms of in-app extensibility, please have a look at the extensibility template that enables reuse of localization artifacts. You will find more information on the extensibility template here.

Can I create a new local version?

Business requirements are shrinking boundaries and that implies more and more country/region-specific needs for your business. We are currently working on a *tool that aims to enable creation of new local versions. As this tool is currently in planning, it is not possible to create an entirely new local version as of today. This is a planned innovation and specific timeline for its general availability is yet to be communicated (*currently in planning and planned availability subject to change)

What kind of support can I expect in using the toolkit?

We aim to build a ‘community of practice’ where we shape the palette of localization-enhancing documents based on your feedback and requirements. You will find expert blogs on topics around localization-relevant extensibility and an aggregation of all relevant links to accelerate your implementation.

How can I request a new API or an extensibility option?

Please refer to SAP API HUB for an overview of available APIs for SAP S/4HANA Cloud. You can also check the extensibility patterns in SAP S/4HANA Cloud via the Extensibility Explorer. If you have a request for a new API or an extensibility option, please address it via the Customer Influence tool.

How does SAP Localization Hub relate to the toolkit?

The SAP Localization Hub is a central hub for SAP to deliver extensions (“as a service” model) for fast evolving regulations on the SAP Cloud Platform. These extensions or services act as a single source of truth and can be consumed not only by SAP applications but also by custom apps or partner apps, thus reducing maintenance costs. We have partners offering services in their area of expertise – for e.g. Avalara Brazil Tax Service. In this context, as a part of the toolkit guides, you will find scenarios on how tax service could be integrated to easily calculate taxes in business transactions in your SAP S/4HANA Cloud system.

How does the SAP Cloud SDK relate to the toolkit?

The SAP Cloud SDK provides end-to-end support when developing applications that communicate with SAP solutions and services such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, and many others. The localization toolkit leverages the SAP Cloud SDK for side-by-side extensibility and potential scenarios are currently being evaluated.
